What to build on a spare new Panda....

Just in finished a simple Remington 700 build based around a .308 SPS Varmint 26" barrel placed in a B&C stock with a NF NXS 12-42x56mm scope. Working up loads on that now with under 1/2 MOA at 300yds just chronying so far. This will be my "plinking" rifle for local long range club matches.

Soon to arrive is my custom 6.5x284 built around a Panda F-Class action on a Master Class stock (getting bedded right now). Carl Bernosky chambered 2 Broughton 31" barrels with my own PTG reamer. This has a new NF NXS 12-42x56mm scope waiting for it. This will be used only for 600-1000yd F-Class matches.

I just happened to fall into a consecutively numbered F-Class Panda and picked it up "just in case" I wanted to build something down the road.

I was thinking along the lines of a 6.5x47. I may use this one for 600yd F-Class and local plinking since the barrel life should be much better than the 6.5x284.

Thoughts??

Why not go with the swede? The 6.5x47 is also a nice choice. I like to be different and try different things. What about a .260.

Call Greg Wally at Kelblys see how his 6.5x55 GWI is doing,I havent heard much about it but I got to see some development in the shop two years ago. I'm thinking on it as well...Just to be a bit different.

It sounds as if you are in real dilemma and to help you out I would accept the extra Panda from you. Understand, I doing this as a favor to you and since I do not even know you I must be one heck of a guy.

284 Shehane. Would give you the opportunity to compare to the 6.5x284 and you already have brass.

Corey, I'm sure you'll find a good use for it, but one thought is to build it into a good F-TR rifle for mid-range matches. You have a great rifle coming for your F-Open rig, you might as well be able to shoot a longer barrel life .308 (which you're already set up for) on a similar platform to your F-Open rifle at local matches. As a bonus, because of the Panda's construction, you should be able to interchange barrels between them, making the F-TR rifle a potential backup to the F-Open should something unexpected happen.

Make a 6.5 x 47 for 300 and 600 use. email me and I will give you the loads.

or

Make a .284 or .284 Shehane which will make you wish you had not built the 6.5 x 284.

Eric,

I'll drop you a line after I get a few rounds down the tube on the 6.5x284. I'll have it all ready for the match in July- and if you'll be there bring another Jewell for me.

Corey
