What to try next?

Been thinking about what to try next. I don't shoot formal bench rest competition, but do most of my shooting from the bench. I like to shoot a lot, so need something that's inexpensive to feed, and will shoot lots of tiny little bug-holes out to 300yds. A bolt action .223 seems to fit the bill, I already load .223 for my service rifle. I had a Savage model 12 in .223 once, but best it would do was just under MOA. On a good day, I might have been able to shoot 2.5-3" at 300yds. I'd like to find something that will reliably print under an inch at 300yds. How do I get there from here?

6.5x47 lapua. expensive at first but then pretty cheap i think. got 1" at 340 yards. .75 most of the time at 265 yards. I shoot f-class style cause that's what I do in the field. brass lasts forever. 35 or more grains per round. if not 6mm br little cheaper. smaller yet? get muzzle brake too. it's so easy.

looking at cheep to feed, the 22br, would be my choice, twist in the range necessary for weights up to 70gr would give 300 bcs that are excelent

Heavy bullets in 223 with a 9 twist! You have got to be kidding right?

As for my pick, a 223 with a 7.2 twist Rock Creek, finished at 30 inches. Wylde chamber. Any bullet from the 75 gr Amax to the Berger 82. A lot of folks are liking that Berger 80.5 Fullbore bullet.

6BR. Easiest round ever for accuracy. Shoot any bullet you can feed it into one hole.

6 BR is incredible but I think 223 is still more forgiving.... and the barrel stays cool longer....

I shoot some crazy small groups with 223 and I use non matching military brass that is pre processed and run on my progressive... I have no idea how tight I could get groups with Lapua brass and using Wilson dies...

When I separate LC cases to match, size with the Redding FL bushing sizer, throw powder with my RCBS 1500, and seat with the Wilson, I get some tiny bug holes... Tons of 4 in /1 out groups (which is me BTW).

No I am going to say that 223 is BY FARRRRRR the most bang for the buck and will outshoot most shooters.

I'm into the 223 AI these days. Reloading components are pretty reasonable.
I've been have good success with the 80.5 gr. Berger through a 26 inch, 8 twist barrel.
That being said, 6BR...

223AI is also very sweet, even fire forming its sweet....

I think the best bang for the buck is either a Remington 700 with a barrel nut barrel from Criterion/Pacnor/Benchmark/Shilen with a Jewel trigger, or a Savage Model 12 with the same barrel and a SAV-2 Rifle Basix trigger.

I would go 223 AI in 1-8 and shoot until the barrel is gone in about 5000 rounds.

Don't forget the good trigger. Maybe the real key really small groups.... That and a stock that tracks.

You can get never fired LC brass in matching headstamp real cheap these days... Well worth the money.
