What the Pros Use

Not certain whether or not this has been posted before? If it has, I apologize. I found it rather interesting, especially the change in Krieger's popularity.

"50 pros in the PRS series".

This is a fairly small group of shooters, and DEFINATLY a very specialized shooting discipline. Not sure why they shoot what they shoot, but they must have a reason. These guys are definatly top notch shooters!!!

Will it affect Krieger sales....not a lick!!

It seems all disciplines have a follow the leader mentality. If this year the winner of the series was using barrels made in China that's what you would see at the top next years list.

That being said Bartlein is on my short list of my 3 favorite barrel makers. Pretty much any of the barrel makers on that list are equally capable of winning.

Think about this now. Bartlein is a good sponsor for PRS. They also donate a lot of barrels for prizes to the top shooters. Therefore if your given good barrels, then that is what you'll be shooting. Look at all the berger bullets given out at BSWN for prizes. That also reflects on how many shooters used them at the FCNC.

Makes sense. Also, I doubt the results for Krieger are anywhere near the same in Benchrest and F class.

To my mind choices are as much about availability as quality. All of those barrels listed are good (Schneider, one of the very best, is last but has the longest wait time so...).

I've learned a high percentage of SR BR is a mind game, I've heard this carries into other shooting sports. Keep that in mind trying to infer anything from equipment lists. Other than brass, actions, and scopes your relying on a competitors word. Right, wrong or indifferent - it's the nature of competition.

Nobody ever lies on an equipment list, Ever!
Eddie is probably right.....if there are any errors on the list it's simply a matter of not getting the facts exactly right. It happens to everybody on occasion, and pants-suit politicians all the time.

I am increasingly of the opinion (in my admittedly limited experience) that any of the 6-8 top rifle barrel manufacturers make an extremely consistent product which is capable of outshooting the owner. FWIW I use Krieger, and have a Brux and a Krieger waiting.

The issues when shooting distance are related to wind reading ability (and in PRS, distance), ammo quality, and shooter ability.

You can obsess about your barrel, action, stock etc if you want to, if spending more money on it makes you feel better.

PRS is a different animal than Benchrest or Fclass. Those same guys would win with a prefit barrel and a nut.

No, never has a person shooting a prefit barrel and a nut, aka Savage won a PRS match, and not in the the top 10 either, the PRS is not Benchrest, nor is it F-Class, it's precision shooting from 10 yards to 1300, and not off your belly

We shoot quite a bit off the belly. I would say it's more the rule than the exception. Of course there are a lot of stages that force you to shoot in unrehearsed positions and using certain barricades or parts of barricades, off of packs, inside vehicles, even from the belly of a moving helicopter (never done that one myself). It's really a ton of fun and exceptionally challenging. I would argue that it's a bit more applicable to real world tactical and or hunting situations as well. It's certainly not any cheaper though.

That may not be true, however in the hands of the right person a savage/remington/remage with a prefit and a well honed load could dominate the PRS or f-class competition. There are plenty of savages in f-class and they do plenty well, the reason you don't see as many in the PRS series has to do with other factors. Going back to the original post, as many have said, if you buy from any of the top reputable barrel makers (and in the case of a blank use a smith that can chamber the barrel concentric with the bore) you will be very happy with the results.

Shooting is no different then any sport. Monkey see monkey do. If a top shooter won a big shoot with Marlin action. the next shoot you would see many marlin actions. most barrels the shoot ma be one e
kind on paper and on then the gun they are shooting . Most think is the equipment, and totally over look at his shooter ability.. Why do the same names keep coming to the top shoot after shoot.. Shooting skills . Larry
