What RangeFinder

The G7 rangefinder is dang nice. I've had mine for about a month now and really like it. It's worth the money. The only thing that i don't like about it, is i wish that it had a finer aiming point. It comes with a crosshair x with a o in the middle and you can switch back and forth, but if the very center had a small dot like a .1moa dot it would be fantastic. The only other grip i have with it is that the display can be kind of hard to see if shooting into the direction of the sun. I've had to shoot the object then either put my hand over the screen or tip it down into the dirt to see the display which brings me off target and i don't like that. I've messed with the brightness a little and it helps.
it's easy to use and it gives good readings out a long ways.

There are a lot of offerings out there in the rangefinder market, so just go play with a bunch, not in the store, ask to bring them outside and shoot as many distances as you can before you settle on the one.

If budget minded, the Nikon 1200 Monarch is really nice, fast and accurate, but kinda bulky. I had one and only sold it to get the Leica 1600 because of the size difference. Leica is so small it's amazing that it has that kind of power.

Was out in the middle of a bright sunny day, really testing My Leica 1600's ranging capability in bright light. Easily picking up 1200-1400 yards on mountain side pine trees. Even got a reading of 1958 and 2025 yards, but those were the only two really long readings I got. Of course I only tried about 10-15 different readings so I probably would have seen the long readings more if I tested longer. Wouldn't be surprised if I could pull off 2000 yards with it all the time in the sun when using a tripod. But handheld, it seemed like 1350-ish was about what it liked to read very consistently. In low light, I can out range the 1600 yard rating with ease every time on non-reflective targets (pine trees)

Whatever you do, don't buy a Leupold rangefinder. Probably the worst I've ever tried. Slow readings, hard to set up and horrible range on non-reflective targets. I doubt a Leupold RF will ever give you the range it's listed for without a highly polished 20 ft tall mirror sitting out at the max range of the given model.

I am in need of a range finder...i have never owned one so this one will be a first for me...needing it to range a coyote at 600yrds and under. price is not a factor as im looking to purchase once....cry once. i will be carrying this unit with me on calling stands

I am new to your forum / website . My spending's for what I am doing are as follows . If you varmint hunt in any capacity little ones to big ones . What do you need to do so ? A range finder , a pair of binoculars ? One or both ? From what i see the way to go is one in both Binocular/Range finder .

You spent money on the rifle of choice complete with scope etc. Now how far is that critter away from you ? If and when ? Are you looking for him/her through a rangefinder or binoculars ?

My spending's / learning curve end up at the binocular rangefinder . Seems to be the way the trend/ market is going ? New to the scene from Bushnell via the workings of Leica , Swarovski Zeis etc .

Most times in low light varmint or big game the binocular rangefinder might be the right choice . Time will tell .
