I'm gonna ask Santa for a rangefinder - which one should I get?

My vote goes to Leica, I have the 1000 model that I bought as a demo from Cameraland . It's been a good one and the small size is one of the things I like most about it.

yeah, Peterson is supposed to get a demo pair soon. I believe we are going to test this one with known data out to as far as it will range.
What is nice is no more drop chart calculations based on yardage, and no more custom turrets based on elevation. Its all real time values that you can display in MOA. Super fast adjustments......

MOA is definitely the way to go. I have that "Shooter" ballistics calculator app on my phone and always calculate drop with the MOA option.

Derik, How far do the Leica HD-b range in MOA. Sounds like the same thing as the BR2G7. Pretty handy. Just range, dial and shoot with one unit.

Lonnie, I believe they are supposed to range out to 1800 yards. I think they have alot of the same features of the G7, but in a bino with HD glass. nice, but spendy...

Vectronix is more accurate and comes in various models that can range from 2400 meters for the Terrapin to 25 KM with the Vector 23 in which I have and have ranged objects at over two miles easily. Cry once and get the best the Leica swarvorski or Zeiss do not hold a candle to the Vectronix laser range finders.

Seriously? The OP was asking for a range finder out to 1000 yards. Not many shooters are going to put a vectronix to good use. (past 2000 yards)
For hunting and shooting out to 1000 yards, It would be hard to beat the Leica, Swaro or G7 for ranging/ballistic data.

And those that have a 1500-1600 yard range aren't reliable on small objects maybe up to half the distance they are rated at. Where the vectronix will range consistently small objects at distances well within the range the OP requires. Again I will say those range finders mentioned can not hold a light to Vectronix. So please before you go calling someone out on what brand they suggest do a bit more homework and you'll see that some whom have a bit of experience with various brands do know what they are talking about....

If you want a reliable rangefinder at 1,000 yards, then you must buy one that is rated at 2,000+, cuz real proformance in the field is about 1/2 of their ratings.

Well the day my Leica 1600 throws me so far off out to 1000 I will let you fellas know. But so far she has been dead nuts right on. So go ahead and spend $2000 on a rangefinder if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside, but I guarantee it won't make you any more accurate than me and my Leica out to 1K...... Well, you're rifle might make you more accurate than me, but your overpriced rangefinder won't ;D

Like I said before, it says 1600 on the side, but it will go a lot farther than that.

I really like my Leica 1200 too. And like wmdron, I feel the compact size is a big plus. Easily fits in your shirt pocket so a breeze to carry. And remember, if you don't have it with you you can't use it!

I'm curious - since some are talking about range finding out to 2000+ yds, I assume some are talking about accurate shooting out to 2000+ yds and I'm struggling in the wind (sometimes you can't wait for wind to dissipate) to hit a tight target at 1000 yds. How many can really hit a tight target cold at 2000 yds, and what do you use to get there. I know folks can hit 2000-2500 or somewhat more after plunking around for awhile to get the range, but what equipment do you use to reliably hit the target cold the first time at 2000 yds. I don't know if this is reliably doable. Please tell me.

Can someone give the difference in beam divergence difference on these models?
Thats the seller key item to me, Leica is known for its narrow divergence and hits what your aiming at and not 50yds in front of or beyond the target.

What range finder other than Vectronix can range out to 1000yds in flat land on an antelope consistently? Just curious...

Oh and on a bright sunny afternoon too.

BR2G7 does. Ranged goats at 1300 yds this hunting season with it. Have to get it pretty steady at that range, but it will do it. It won't range with a Vectronix. It's a hunting range finder. I chose it over the Vextronix for its ballistic profile that gives MOA drop when you push the button. Once you get your ballistics programed in it, works very well. I walk around on my range shooting steel at random distances to 1400 yds and the drop chart is dead on. It will range large objects over 2000.

I have a G7BR2 it will range VERY LARGE objects at long range. If you have a open area to range it does great on animal targets out to maybe 1400 if you are using balistic apps. I just sold mine because I do more long range target shooting (steel) at 600-2000 yds. I have a Vectronix Terrapin will be here Monday. In over a month of intensive research, other than $'s I have read NOTHING- - - negative about it. I will repeat again, for hunting the G7BR2 is "The Nuts"!!! JVON
