What Material to Use to Build Up Aluminum Part

I'd challenge anyone to remove a glass tube that's been bonded to aluminum with a bead of pure silicone.
I'd leave the UNF intact and use the JB Weld. Leaving the threads intact will provide an immovable mechanical bond for the epoxy.
The problem with silicone is the clean up. It is hard to remove the excess liquid silicone. Epoxy on the other hand is fairly easy to wipe away.

removing excess is easy, just take a spray bottle with water, mist area that has excess silicone and wipe away with finger for damp cloth. finger works great, the water will keep the excess from sticking to surrounding areas while wiping it away.

So you need a sleeve 3" OD, 2.960" ID, W .060"???

McMaster 3" OD tube, .049" wall (.049" is the cheapest). Cut a .100' or so length, put it in with retaining compound, face off and machine ID to dimension. Any of the Loctite bearing retaining compounds will stick to anodize when used with the primer. BTDT

I did get a piece or 3" x .049" wall aluminum tube. Wow, that stuff is exactly 3" OD and it is round. I will machine the threads out on a part and install a short piece with LocTite 638 bearing mount. Then I can machine the ID to fit the glass tube. That only downside is the wait for the 638 to cure.
