What is the safest way to sell on our forum?

I have a razor hd scope I am selling and want to make sure I don't get scammed. Obviously, cash face to face deal is best, but aside from that, what is the best way to go about it?

As with every forum sell it to someone with a post history of substance and contribution and not just hawking bs to drive up a post count.

Typically, the seller waits for payment and then sends the "item". I'm in the process of buying a scope right now in that manner. The seller is a member here with positive buying and selling feedback. Be careful and wait for payment to clear. You can also Google the address and name of your buyer to get more info.

If you are doing the selling that is simple. Get paid before you send it out. Postal M.O. should be authenticated before you ship as well. Easy enough to do at the P.O............Good Luck. I have had nothing but positive dealings here both buying and selling.

Best Regards
Rick

If you are doing the selling, in my opinion it is hard to get scammed..... as others have said, Ask for postal money order, wait for payment, authenticate payment or wait for it to clear..... then send the item. This forum has always had a great reputation for being safe! Good luck.

Just make sure the check clears before you send the item. I'm perfectly fine taking a personal check...I just let them know it might delay the shipping for a few days.

I've had nothing but good luck buying items on this forum as well. I get their mailing address and usually Google it prior to sending my check. If the address they give me looks shady, I might back out. If they have a nice house, boat outside, nice truck, it inspires confidence the deal will go down without a hitch. If there is an used toilet in the front yard and a bunch of old wrecked cars out back...I will decline on a high ticket item.

I like to talk to ppl on the phone as well. Always have good conversations. Easy way to tell if they know what they have and know about gun stuff

Pretty easy to do here. Sell to site contributors only. You also have access to trader feedback on this site. Most folks that have been members and site contributors here are good as gold.

While buying from and selling to site contributors does not gauruntee you won’t get burned it a good idea. However, I have scored a number of great deals with perfect transactions from what I call non-established and non-contributing members. There are a lot of very good members on this site. Just be honest, follow the basics, and use your gut feeling. It looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck... chances are pretty damn good it’s a duck.

While this thread is about sellers, as seller you should consider the buyers side as well. I have never sold on one of these forums but I have bought items on forums like this. When an agreement is reached between two individuals, each one has to trust the other. The OP is worried about sending his scope, but there is a buyer that is just as worried about losing their money. The seller usually wants payment before they ship, so they are in possession of both the funds and the goods. At this point, the buyer is out his money with no real recourse. When I buy something, I do the same thing that I would do if I were selling. I get enough information to make sure the other person is real. I get a cell number so we can swap texts, if not talk person to person. I don't send money orders (the preferred currency) to post office boxes. I require an address that i can verify is real. I have never been scammed.

Trust is the key. Look for past history No. of post etc.clear funds first, and you should not have a problem. But please do your home work.. Tommy Mc..

I’m a gold contributor and have over 200+ transitions most of which have been by check . I have spent a lot of time and money on this site. What bothers me is the person who has sold 10-20 items and hasn’t taken the time to check out the coments filed on me and for a $35 item want a money order or insisted that they would hold the item for 2weeks until the check cleared. It clears my bank the day you cash it-I’ve checked it out. In short if I’m that untrustworthy, then I’ll save you the possibility of being taken advantage of. Also look at who I’ve done business with and their feedback. I personally don’t want to do business with an individual that paranoid. You will find out that 99.9% of the people on this site are trustworthy, just take the time to check out their feedback OR call them !

Use PayPal and pay the small fee. If you have an issue with a PP transaction, PP will help you to resolve your complaint. I would rather go to the denist than drive down to the USPS and stand in line.
Ben

I use PayPal almost 100% of the time and also pay the % on my end. Some guys say that PayPal is anti-gun and won't use them. I continue to use them because of the ease of their service. Seller gets their money right away and the buyer gets the item faster. When I sell something I wait 2 days and then have them send my funds to my bank account. I had one problem with them with a seller on another forum. Made my complaint with PayPal. One day later they recovered my funds. They never asked what I had sold. That is the method I use to hopefully prevent getting scammed. So far so good.

As previously posted, go with those with good track records. I would caution anyone that thinks USPS money orders are safe and offer protection against scammers to cash them at your local post office before sending the item. A p.o. in my area gets attempts at cashing counterfeits on a regular basis. Another urban myth is the feds will go after someone who cashes your money order and then doesn't send the goods. Good luck with that.

I ‘m curious what happened to one of you on the forum who used a MO and had problems with the person you bought something from. How secure were your funds and what did you have to do to get them back and did you? Was it easy or not?

This isn't a difficult issue; when you sell an item mandate certified funds such as postal money orders and restrict your trade to parties that have a known positive history with this site. Follow these two factors and transactions will be a non issue.
