What is a good, tough, lighter AR trigger?

+1 for Geissele. Their work is outstanding, and the parts are through-hardened and finished after heat-treat for durability and precision. Nobody else comes close for AR triggers.

Larue for the money. Rock Rivers will work, White Oak Armament used to do some tuning on the RR's and they were great. It takes a lot of rounds to wear out the triggers.

I have a Geissele SSA-E and a Geissele NM. Both serve different purposes and both are outstanding in regard to quality and function. The NM is adjustable in every conceivable way from pull weight, sear engagement, first to second stage take up travel and over travel. The SSA-E is fixed with no adjustments. Perfect for a "no babysitting" trigger.

I almost bought the LaRue MBT, but didn't only because I found a great deal on the SSA-E first. I've heard nothing but great things about the LaRue MBT.

I went straight from mil spec to a Geissele SSA-E In my one and only AR. It’s been a huge improvement but I don’t have enough experience with others to say it’s the best.

All I'll say is.....B.S. !! I personally have long term experience with
the RRA triggers. Been shooting them just about since the Larson's
opened shop years ago. One brother has since passed. My latest
3 are two Delta Mid HBr's and a EOP bull barrel varmint. The Varmint
has the lightest trigger at just under 3 lbs. The Mids are 3 lbs and 4.5
lbs. The reason for the 4.5 trigger is to make it legal at match's that
require a mil trigger. These guns are not closet queens. Triggers
break nice and clean. The trigger on the EOP feels like a 2 pounder
but pull gage says 2 lbs 12 ozs. I never felt the need to go elsewhere
and pay a higher dollar, and I will be the first one to tell ya, I'll go to
something else if there is a problem. Now as for Geisselle ?? I hear
their triggers are excellent from other shooters, but I did break one
of their charging handles in a speed steel match.
I second this. Great triggers.

The RRA triggers have a reputation for failing in the long term. In this instance, I truly believe that you get what you pay for.
My son & I both have the Rock River 2 stage triggers. I have about 1500 rounds on mine & he has close to 2000 on his. They are pretty good triggers(very good for the $$). I would consider the LaRue MBT(<$100) if I had it to do over again.

Just an update, I bought 3 MBTs for $75/rd and they feel as good as my two SSA s, and average 3.75# pull. Thanks for the advice guys!

Question; what's the rule book say on minimum trigger pull weight?

I had thought an SSA-E was too light, SSA being the option to meet minimum.

Scratch that! Tactical F-class not the long range tactical. Never a bad idea to check though, as it's hard to be competitive if you're not pushing the limits of the rulebook.
