What do you think of the hornady lock and load w quick change?

I'd like to know what your thoughts are on the quick change feature? I have only loaded for a couple of seasons so this is my first press. It is the single not progressive.

I have seen comments in other threads that having "float" is desirable. That is the only thing that worries me. The orings that provide spring tension also allow some movement, good or bad.

I don't compete in bench rest, mostly long range silhouette and I play with F class.

I have no problem with negative comments, just give me explanations also.

Thanks and let the party begin

I converted my Rock Chucker to the quick change system and LOVE IT! I also did the same for my Lee Hand-Held Press using Lee's bayonet system. Love that too!

As for my opinion their set up is the best thing since sliced bread. I reload so many different cartridges that it saves me tons of time resetting my dies at each change. Works even better on their progressive press with die changers.

Love it! A 3/8" turn to the right and the die is out, a 3/8" turn to the left and it's in. Simple.

The only press that beats the Hornady's feature is the Forster Co-AX press where you simply slide the die in and out.

Put me in the 'happy' column, as well. Converted my Redding Boss and my Lee Classic Cast to the Hornady bayonet system and am very pleased with the accuracy and quick-change feature of both. Once you've twisted the inserts down tight their is no 'float' from the o-rings. They are fully compressed and it is metal-on-metal at that point.

You are defeating the purpose of the o-ring by cranking them down that far you want some float to help sef align and avoid runout. It will help even farther if you remove the shell holder retaining clip and replace it with an o-ring. All in the chase for a concentric round!! JVON

Another LNL bushing Lover here. I've not gone to great lengths to measure for any accuracy or runout issues...

But as posted above.... I'm running all kinds of dies and calibers changes. Couldn't live without it. Makes my Big Boss 2 press twice as valuable to me.

Add my vote for the quick change bushing system. Converted my RCBS Rock Chucker to this and haven't looked back since. Have all my dies set and ready to go, each in their own bushing. I haven't seen any detriment to accuracy whatever.

A batch of cases I sized last night measured less than .0005" of total indicated runout.

Rounds seated with my Forster Seating Die (bonanza style) also show minimal runout.

One thing I do is to mark the adapter in the press and each bushing as well when I set the die up. This makes sure that the bushings are in the same position as when set so any error, however slight, is not added to my setup by using different adapter positions.

One of the best investments I've made so far. Essentially turned an existing single stage press into a "turret like" press.

as I stated in another post i have used about every press including an early coax still own most of those presses. i have switched to the Lock and load bushing and not experienced any problem. i set them up witness mark them and they are consistant. i used thinner o-ring to allow some float and they align up great.
