what do you shooters do when you are loading very light powder level is bigger capacity cases?

Do you use some type of stuffing to keep all the powder next to the primer?

Cowboy and target shooters use a powder like WST for light loads. For 45LC , they use lighter bullets also. In the 45 acp I use WST for light loads with 230 or 200 gr. bullets. WST is a light gray fluffy powder that fills the case much better than most other powders.

The actually make a low density powder just for that.
Trail boss.

I am looking for options for 2400 powder. I have heard of guys stuffing something (cotton, foam, pillow stuffing) in the case to hold the powder in place next to the primer.

I know nothing about that , and wanted more guidance.

While promises of Trail Boss availability later this year have me optimistic, I am using CFE Pistol in my .45 Colt loading until such time as Trail Boss is again in stock.
CFE Pistol is not position sensitive, and burns clean as well. No problem finding it around here.

338 Whisper or 338 benchrest.

its the 338 based on the 6br case.

11.2 to 11.4 grains of 2400 gets me right around 1030 - 1050 fps

but the SD is around 18. I would like to tighten that up a bit.

Wes, you using a suppressor??? If so the card stock my not be a great idea. Old timer’s used to use a dab of pillow ticking in 45-70 when using light loads of fast burning powders to keep the powder from settling too far from the primer and affecting ignition

4227 or 296 seem to work from what I have read. Just like other cartridges, try more powders and see what happens.

Back in 06 Dacron was the filler because it burned completely.

I'm loading my 350 Rem Mag with 800x/158gr JHP and tuft of dacron over the powder.

Pillow ticking is the cloth that holds pillow stuffing MLZ shooters use pillow ticking for patching round balls. Some were using hornet nest material under the ball to protect the patch, I never bothered, for target shoot/matches I used a spit patch to keep the BP residue soft and heavily waxed patches hunting.

That is what I was thinking also. Maybe a different bullet, would solve your problem so you would not need any filling. Seating the bullet deeper.
