What do I have?

My date code chart says Oct 2002. IIRC the "S" code on the receiver stands for stn. stl. Nothing is adding up as I believe the J-lock came sometime after 2003. There were not many stn. stl. varmint barreled actions offered in 22-250 and none of those were non-fluted. The green laminate could be "forest camo" variation as offered by Boyds and others, but I have only seen Remington offer Brown and Black/ Gray laminates.
As is, it is the way I would have ordered a 700 VLS-SS (hate the thumbhole and gimmick Buick vent holes) except for the J-lock and it having a magazine as I am a die hard ADL guy. Very nice find.

Thanks. Glad I'm not the only one who's scratching his noggin. I like the rifle. Stopped into the LGS just to say hey & it caught my eye. The price was too good to pass up so went back the next day & bought it. Borescope shows it's almost new inside. It shot PPU 55gr factory into about 1 1/2" yesterday with really lousy conditions.

I'm pretty sure it's a Remington stock from the pad & black grip cap. The lines look just like the other brown Remington laminate I have & dont quite match any of the Boyd's. Google says J-lock started 2002. It's the internet???? I dont know. Maybe my chart is wrong too... the Lacey book stops at 1975 & this one came off the internet.

I’m not an expert on all the different Remingtons but the trigger is one of my favorites. You should try it for a while before replacing it. The bottom safety takes a little getting used to but once you do, it’s easy to use. They allow more bedding area to remain at the rear of the action.
I will try it for a while. If it comes off you'll have 1st dibs.

The trigger sounds like a Jewel bottom safety. Great trigger! Let me know if you switch it out. I’ll buy it !
Do you EVER miss an opprtunity my dear friend!? Dang...there I was finishing a stock, thinnking "someday I will be like Josh", and upstairs, on the computer, up pops a Jewell and Ol josh is on it like a hound on a bunny! ;)

Woof woof! I like the bottom safeties A LOT! I think he’ll get used to it and I hope he does! I’ll do what I can to help him make it work. If he does decide it’s not for him, I’ll gladly put it on one of my guns.

BTW, the stock is coming out pretty nice Josh. Thanks to your help. Now, back to our regular programming.
