What did you kill this fall, and what did you use?

The 1250 pound live weight was estimated by the butcher... We opened up the Moose and left it overnight. It took four of us 2 hours to cut a trail and get 3 ATV's into the site, 3 hours to quarter the moose and load it onto the 3 ATV's, an hour to get back out through bog, ruts, ledge, etc... about 6 hours total. Short of a skidder... I don't know how that bull could have been taken out whole. I was told ahead of time that it didn't matter where the moose was when I shot him... It was my job to shoot him, and theirs to get him out no matter how long it would take.

That's very impressive!! I like the fact you worked so hard for that meat. I grow two gardens and home can everything plus put two or more deer up every year.

Me? Nuth'n. I only hunted one day. I had to go home the second day to take care of Maw however all was not lost, my youngest grandson bagged his first with a Savage in 7-08, 140 Nosler Solid Base.

It wasn't a big'n but was a heck of a lot bigger than the one I didn't get!:D
Now its onto muzzle stuff'n season to try my luck.

With moving and having my mother ill and into a nursing home, me traveling 400 miles one way every 15 days to see her, all I was able to do was hang a stand that my daughter sat in a couple times. She only saw squirrels...now it is about 14 degrees, wind is blowing 25 mph, and I am sitting in my reloading room, waiting for big game...er...I mean groundhog season. Time to load some K Hornet and 222.
Congrats to all who bagged the big or little one!

That's the best trophy I have seen so far .

Got a hog in Texas with a wildcat 44-06 1.8". Call it 44MLC. 265 grain Hornady FTX over 39 of AA1680. About 12 yards. The deer forgot to show up. On the way home we saw a field with 42 whitetails!
Also trapped two skunks and shot with a 22lr, the aroma is unforgettable getting them out of the traps.

44-06 1.8"? Been quite a while since someone mentioned a wildcat chamber I hadn't heard of. Bet thats a cannon. Do you have a pic of a loaded round you can post?

I like the 265gr FTX bullets in my Raging Bull 44 Magnum. Was planning on using them for doe hunting in the river bottom. My 44 actually shoots the Hornady 300gr XTP with better accuracy, but I think the FTX would be better suited for hunting. Though, 300gr of anything from a 44 mag under 100 yards is gonna kill very well

Both of my 10mm Auto handguns like the Hornady XTPs as well. Maybe they are just an inherently accurate bullet? I don't know. Might hunt with one of those as well.

I have a friend with property in the shotgun zone in Michigan, the state recently started allowing "pistol cartridge rifles". So I designed the case to meet the ruling and function in a Remington 700, rimless. Her father said I showed "a commitment " to hunting there. I work for a gunsmith, we have made three, all 700's with a straight grip stock like win 94.
I would have used 300 grains but I would either need to ream the cases deeper or lengthen the throat. Right now it is working good with the 265's so I am not messing with success. I am getting 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards with a 5x scope.
Will post a picture.

This year was one of the best ever
I killed a lot of time setting around the camp with my grandchildren and family
Doesn't get any better then that
Merry Christmas all Larry
I hunt on my cousin's place. When I head to the woods, he gets a hickory fire going for ribs, chicken, and some backstraps if i'm lucky. Baked beans, potato salad, and a half dozen cookies and cakes. After a morning in the stand, it is TERRIFIC! Oh, I got a freezer doe with my 7mm08 A-bolt, 120 Nosler BT

My year went pretty well and I still have a couple tags left. It started with a cow elk hunt with my wife. She used a 6.5x47L I built with 140 Berger hunting bullets.

Then I shot my first bull on a draw tag using a 300wsm I built on a long action shooting 215 Bergers @ 2950fps. He had a pretty narrow spread (38") and his 2nd and 3rd are weak or he would have scored mid 300's. He scores 303".

A couple weeks later I shot this bull with the same rifle on a non-resident tag. The Salmon river 4000' below makes a good back drop. I'd like to say my buddy from WA shot the 6x6 he shot at right before I shot this bull but he missed at 150yds off a bipod somehow. This bull was the only one, except a spike, that I got a good shot at as the 100+ elk vacated the country. My buddy has a bit of a bum ankle he had surgery on earlier in the year so I had to pack 90% of this bull out on my own. It was about 1000yds down a 45 degree slope. Probably the worst pack out on a elk I've ever done and I've had some doozies in the past. Next year a Capstan winch will be along for the ride.

Later I shot this poor antelope.

Then I took my wife for her cow moose tag and she shot it with the same 6.5x47L.

Here is my hunting partners bull from the weekend after I shot my 7x7 bull. This was the furthest animal of the year @ 500yds.

upload_2016-12-16_7-36-17.jpeg

The wife's moose was 454yds, my antelope was 325yds, Her cow was 178yds, my small bull was 150yds, and my big bull I cow called in to 60yds. Here are some more good pictures from the year.

In this unit we could use dirt bikes to move camp and game after it's down not to hunt off of.

This was 2 days after I shot my bull when we had to ride in and retrieve camp. It's a good thing it was a pretty mellow trail.

A pretty good size mutt track.
