what can i due with my 721 rem in 30.06

hello! can you guys and gals give me some idea's on rechambering my standard 30.06 to a different wild cat.tired of the old gal even though it is a great shooter.:,thank you

What can you do with a 721 in '06??? About anything you want. How much do you want to spend? Are you willing to rebarrel, rechamber. You need to get a little more specific. If you're talking about just rechambering without anything else and using the stock barrel, then how about an '06 AI. About the same as the 300 H&H except in a standard action length. Most 721's were twenty four inch barrels so you can get a little speed.

Not much. That's why you should consider doing "something" else with the action> I have numerouse 721's in 30/338, 280 AI, 257 Roberts AI and so on and so forth. Pick something that you can use the same bolt face. Have it rebarreled, action trued, sako extractor, trigger, stock and away you go. I welded a false bottom in two of mine to make them single shots and stiffen the action. You can leave the follower in if you want to keep it a magazine rifle. I only do this with my hunting 721s. I don't hunt any of them anymore 'cause I switched to archery about five years ago.

thanks for the idea's i like the sound of the 280 improved being a .270 win fan, reading about it it has it's advantages all right! thank you...........

I turned my 721 into a .280 Ackley Improved with an HS-Precision thumbhole stock and a Hart barrel. Great rifle! I sold it to my hunting partner, and he killed a mule deer at 480 yards. He is a practiced long-range shooter.,I sold it to help finance an ATV.)

The 721 is a good action, and you can buy them for cheaper than a Remington 700. They are a good deal, and I wouldn't hesitate to build a custom rifle on a 721.

Cotrary to what you hear, the trigger on the 721 can be worked into an excellent trigger with a pull fo 2.5- to 3 lbs.

The only negative thing is the extrator. The 721 extractor is poorly designed and will fail - mine did. I suggest you have a Sako extractor installed.

Good luck!
