What barrel lube after cleaning

For a long term storage protectant I use CLP Collector. As a lube before the first fouling shot the blend of Butch's/Kroil has worked decent for me, but I recently went back to using a light film of TM Oil. Barreled cleaned easily and there wasn't a trace of copper after 30 rounds,

After BoreTech carbon and copper cleaning. Mop out chamber w/ 91% alcohol and one down the bore. Followed by 2 dry patches and then one Lock Ease patch mildly soaked. Mop out chamber again w/ the alcohol. Works well and predictable cold bore shot.

After seeing Speedy's recommendation for Lockeeze, I tried a local equivalent and the two fouling shots were damn near touching and centered on the subsequent group. Normally my FO gun is a solid 1 - 1.5mins low on the first shot. I'm a convert.

What lube do you use after cleaning your barrel?

I have been putting a Kroil patch down after cleaning and then dry patching before shooting. I seem to be getting more copper fouling after shooting than I think I should on fairly new barrels in good condition. Thinking of switching to some other lube or some solid lubricant like lockeese. Your experience greatly appreciated.
I have used 1/2 and 1/2 ATF and Kerosene, a recipe I stole off the internet approx. 25 years ago, for My gun oil....I have no rusty guns...

I make my own from a "recipe" given to me by a longtime friend and shooting partner...
To tell the truth, basically all of the items mentioned above work just fine. I just seem to find some weird satisfaction in mixing my friend's "recipe" up.... LOL

I recently (last year) tried the Neolube stuff. I'm now a believer as proven by the Borescope. As far as corrosion, I can't comment. I think the environment has a lot to do with that. I could leave a barrel in the driveway out here for a month and it won't rust! In Wisconsin, it'll rust overnight, inside!

For my stainless steel benchrest barrels I don't use shit. I clean it with patch out and leave a little bit of that in there and for 10 years so far it's worked out fine. For my hunting rifles I have always used Marvel. Again that's worked fine for 50 years.

The cosmoline grease worked pretty well, if you want very long term. If you keep your guns in a reasonably low humidity environment, most will work just fine. I use CLP, and have never had an issue. You can look at a 70 year old tractor and see how well gear lube lasts, from the leaking gaskets.

The point is- the lube is to prevent the copper fouling from the first shot. No one is arguing that it helps after the first fouling shot. Any smith will tell you that shooting a dry bore is NFG. Ask Jim Borden among other renowned smiths. Swabbing with alcohol and putting away is the worst thing you could do. You've stripped the bore of any protection against moisture and contaminants that may be outgassing from being in proximity to the stored gun. A good oil like Butches Gun Oil ( MMO) will not turn to scum like kroil and some others over a period of a few months.

Can't agree more. This is a fact. Some of us learned the hard way, when we were on the alcohol kick.

A bore scope is your friend.
