We’re being invaded!

Clouds are moving northwest in this satellite loop (link below) so in TX the path of totality will be largely clouded over, but may still allow visibility through a thin or broken overcast. You can see the darkness is covering Mexico at this time and creep NE.

A large area around Dallas seems in the clear, judging from live coverage on C-Span from there. Totality just reached. Almost wish I were there.

Up here at my son's place in Waterford just south of Erie Pa.
it got a bit dicey !! It went from overcast to light clouds, to
bright, clear and sunny. 10 minutes before the start, the clouds
rolled back in. We were lucky though. The breaks in the clouds
still let you see the whole event. Ribs and the Amish style potato
salad was the main event though......I have pics taken I need to
sort. There were several airplane contrails crossing the path. One
looked like a missile strike. Hoping that pic came out......My son
has automatic edging lights around the pool deck. It got way dark
enough for all of them to come on......No crazy incidents other then
I-79 from Erie, south to Pittsburg got a bit jammed up for a couple
hours.......Other then that......"YAY', IT'S OVER" !!!!!

Alright, this is what I ended up with......I shot 27 pics with an old
school Nikon 6 megapixel I usually keep in my range bag. I used
a #9 welders shade for the ones that came out. Without shade,
they were all glared and washed out. The one with the plane
contrail did show. Cloud cover was messing with us.....It is what it is.....

@Fuj, ok that's fine about the sun and clouds and all, but I'm more interested in the Amish potato salad.

I was hoping to bring some home but yeah, It went fast. 4 lbs
was not enough. We did 4 racks of baby backs and one spare
rib rack. "GONE"....LOL

So who got screwed with bad weather ??

It comes in 2 lb. tubs from our local butcher shop. I bought two
and should have bought 3. Ya' never know who''s hungry for what ??
They make it fresh daily.

I just walked outside and looked up. Clouds moved in overnight and I can’t see the sun. Can’t even tell where it is in the sky. It’s supposed to be like this for the next three days.
City workers are busy closing off streets and putting up signs. Police Dept. on high alert.
Schools closed Monday. All this mayhem and the only way we’ll see it is on TV!
I can’t stop giggling.

yah, but how were the ribeyes?

On October 14 2023 an annular eclipse went right across SW Texas. It didn't get totally dark, but the disc of the sun was still obscured, just the outer "ring of fire" was visible. I don't recall hearing of any hordes in TX for that one.

must have been back during football season or something...

We live out in the sticks in Vermont. Location and weather was great. I’m at the end of a 1/4 mile private drive. We had a family from Mass wander up our driveway looking for a State park that’s close by. They were disappointed to discover the park was just woods and crop fields. Think they needed more research pre trip. I was tempted to invite them up on our deck to enjoy the eclipse, but my wife isn’t as trusting as I am. I gave them directions to a spot I thought work for them.
i wouldn’t travel to see one, but it was pretty cool.
