Remington with Vais Brake.

Hi guy's
Nice forum you have here! Here is some of the thing's that I have done cent's I have been here on this forum. Order a set of die's from Mr.Jim Carstensen for my new to me 30BR.And order some bullet's from Extreme Accuracy, All of that, nice forum!! My rifle is a Shilen action, Brought barrel Hv with 100 round's down the tube, McMillan stock,1.5 Jewell trigger. Jim send me a seating die, so I could fire 6 round's and send them back for him to make the FL bushing die just for that gun. The bullet's I had was some 155 A-Max,and some vv133 powder. So my frist 6 was a nice little grp. That gun is going to take some shooting. It's my frist BR gun. alot diff from my old savage!! Have you guy's heard of the postal shoot's?? By Liz Moore.

I'm a "tactical" kind of guy. I found this site by way of Sniper's Hide. My main rifle is a Remington 700 R5 in an Accuracy International 1.5 stock. I've scoped this rifle with a Nightforce 5.5 X 22. I do most of my shooting on our property out to 500 yards, and I've been doing more 1000 yard shooting since I found a local range. Thanks for what looks like a friendly forum with knowledge.

Webound,

Welcome to the forum. As a "tactical" kind of guy, you'll enjoy this article by Brad Sauve, 2004 US F-TR Champion. He shoots a McBros .308, dressed in camo of course. Plenty of gun-handling advice for shooter with tactical-style platforms:

Thank you for the article. It's funny how you can spend all the time in the world, and still not find a better load than the 308 standard,Lapua brass, Varget, 175 SMK). It's almost the identical load that I run. My next purchase will be the RCBS charge-master to speed up reloading, and minimize ES, and SD. I have to have as much help as I can get with my .308,don't have those slippery 6mm bullets to play with). Oh by the way my handle over on Sniper's Hide was Long-shot for those who love or hate me.

Hi all. I've checked this site out a few times before and really like the information but had no 6BR. I've decided to build up a semi custom Savage 400 yard egg gun in 6BR and the information found here has been most helpful.

The barrel will be a Pac-Nor probably in an 8" twist measuring 26" and a straight pipe having a 1.120" diameter, Baer BR stock, Sightron 36x scope, Leupold Std. base and Burris Signature rings, eventually a SSS BR 2oz. trigger and SSS competition recoil lug and tactical bolt handle. I'm looking to shoot anywhere between the 88LD up to the 107 SMK.

I'm pretty active on GGVG and Savage Shooters and also like Saubier, Predator Masters, BRcentral, Greybeard, LRH, Texas Predator Posse and Wildcat Shooting boards.

Hey Folks My names' Andy seitz and I am a fairly new benchrest shooter that likes many different kinds of rounds. My favorite is the little .243 WSSM coyote that I am working with right now and would like to find out what other people are finding out about this new cartridge. Hello to all and I look forward to "shooting" the bull with you guys!

Hello, all. First time here. I'm a regular on the shooting forum sponsored by Guns & Ammo Mag. I discovered this site while researching Krieger barrels for my 6mm Rem VLS. I'm not a competitive shooter, and I don't own a 6mmBR, however, I do have a good time with prairie dogs with my 6mm Rem and .223 Rem.

After checking out the reloading forums, the knowledge base here seems incredible, and I kind of doubt I'll have much to offer...but, I've sure got a lot of questions! :)

Hi Bill Siegloff Here in Australia i am competing in F Class with a 284Win,yes in 7mm) and having a 6mm Dasher built as i sit here. I have been involved in a family busness profesionaly loading ammunition for contracts and individuals with over eighty calibres and i have been shooting competitivly scince 10 years old and helping loading and loading since about 7. I am trying to set up a 1000 yard comp at my club in Bendigo where the 2006 com games will be. I have a 6mm br built on a trued remington 700 VLS with the Remington barrel chambered with a 271 neck and cut back to 22" and a Kahles 8x56s scope on it for use in low light. it will shoot .3 to .4 all day. I have also been involved in writing technical articles here in OZ aswell and i will look at sending in an article on my F Class rifles if it is of any interest.

Cheers Bill

Hey folks, My name is Jeff Hendrix. I am a gunsmith from Mississippi. I have really enjoyed the boards and gleane a lot of good info so far. PM or email me if you ever need anything.

Ok I'll bite...

I've been lurking here a while and I have had a few posts lately. I am new to the 6BR's, but not new to benchrest and other "close to 6mmBR" wildcats. I've been shooting competitive Benchrest since 1995, and before that I did a lot of varmint shotting and wildcatting. Below is a recent picture at the "Iowa State IBS Score championships". I did very well there, 1st in the Vh 100, 1st in the VH 200, 1st in the VH grand, 6th in the VFS 100, 1st in the VFS 200 and 1st in the VFS grand, and 2nd Overall.

This picture was taken during a practice day.

Hi,

I found this site to be very informative. It is hard to find people that appreciate precision. I'm glad to be here!

Ralph

PBike, Welcome. That's mighty impressive shooting!!

Jeff2x2x. Glad you could join us. Post a pic of your new 22BR when you have a chance. Sure is nice working with that Lapua brass don't you think?

I don't have a 6mmbr but I do have access to a remmington 700p and bushmaster varminter. I joined because I'm starting to do some pistol brass reloading, but will eventually be reloading for the 308 and this is a great resource.

I'm new to the forum but not to shooting or reloading. I recently began shooting F class 300 meter at a local club. My first rifle for this was a new Savage .243 but after 2,300 rounds the barrel was ready for replacement. I have a local gunsmith putting on a Shilen 6mm BR Norma barrel on the Savage action. I've experimented, with the .243) with different weight and moly/non-moly bullets from Berger, Sierra and Lapua as well as with different powders. The 6BR will be a more efficient case and I expect to be able to stay with Varget, as I've learned from this forum.

I discovered that the best accuracy from the original .243 came with MV of 2850 with bullets seated about .015 off the lands. But, I experimented with many combinations of seating depth, bullet weights and powder weight, primarily VV 160) to repeat my first match results,I won F class). I keep records, but even an exact repetition of that match load would not produce the same results, therefore, all the experimentation until the barrel just gave up. I DON'T want to repeat that process with the 6BR.

I have picked up a lot of very useful information and data that I hope will help me in shooting the 6BR AND cleaning up after I shoot. I also don't want to have to repeat the experience I had with the .243.

Hipshot,

Welcome to the forum. For most of us, it is relatively easy to work up a good load for the 6BR without a lot of experimentation. I'd start with Varget, .010" into the lands. If that doesn't work, try .010" out. In my rifle, the factory ammo is about .010" away from the lands and that proved very accurate, though I'm .010" into lands with my handloads). If Varget doesn't work for you, VV N540, RL15 and IMR 4895 are good choices for the longer bullets. For the 80-90gr pills, H4895 and VV N135 work well.

But I bet you'll find that the gun is not fussy, if you use good bullets. For 300m competition, I would use the new BIB 95s. For long-range stuff, I'd try the Berger 105s, Lapua 105s, or Clinch Rivers.

On your chamber, a 0.080" Freebore will let you shoot the Berger 95s. For the BIB 95s and 100gr-class, a Freebore of 0.100-0.120 will work fine.

Hello everyone,

I'm from Sydney Australia. I've recently become very interested in the precision shooting game. It started while building up a load for my Steyer SSG PII in 308. The best I got out of it,and my self) was a 0.35" 4 shot group at 100 meters. A bloke next to me was shooting a custom benchrest rifle in 6 PPC and the tiny little groups at 200m caught my eye. We got to talking and the rest is history. I'm hooked. I've been reading up on sites like this trying to soak up information and I'm currently talking to a gunsmith about building a rifle. Hope to place an order very soon.

Great site.

Hi. While I've shot M1's, M16's, and had a 25-06 for awhile, I haven't owned or shot a rifle for too many years, playing the IDPA pistol game at present). Saw the MD IBS at Thurmont last month and fell in love with benchrest. Also, I've never reloaded. Doing all the required reseach off the web and from books, and of course Precision Shooting) and bugging all the guys, and gal) at Thurmont. So far, my thinking is to start with a 30BR for score, longer barrel and brass life, and stable load) and then eventually go to 6PPC for group. Have many, many questions, so you will see me alot around here. However, will do the research and try to answer my own questions prior to posting. Thanks for a great site - already have many of your articles in a folder for later reference.

Howdy Y'all,
First timer here - just wanted to introduce myself... I've been in and out of the benchrest / varmint scene off and on for the past 30 years or so. My 14-yr old son has got me fired up again about punching some paper and maybe a whistle pig or two... Currently, we share a .222 Cooper Classic, which may soon become a 6.8 SPC), a T/C Encore w/22-250 26" Custom Shop,ha-ha) hvy. barrel and a Weatherby Vanguard 22-250 that I just bought my son for his very own walking varminter. We also share the sport with my best friend of 42 yrs. and his 14-yr old son. Its really been fun to get back into this type shooting again - especially doing it w/my son. And if all these guns fail me, I can always fall back to my "Number One Gun" - my .40-cal 1770 Lancaster, PA-style flintlock!! Look forward to jawing with everybody.
