Weighing primers !

Can you really see the difference on paper or is it one of those mental things where you think it helps so it does?

I touched on this in post #9 , if you can figure out how much influence primer mix has on combustion vs powder you may be able to draw your own conclusion or at least place a value on the exercise. We know for certain the .10 grains ( 6 kernels) of varget are clearly influential in a 6 mm br size case, we have many examples of this at mid range.

Well when i have flyers & i don't know what caused them like The 7" groups i had at 600yrd " might" have been weak primers in the mix ....
If i sort them then the "might have been" moves to another area.
In 2k primers i had maybe 20 that jumped out of normal weight one way or the other, mostly light.

I just don't want the 3.30 & 3.75 in the same string of 5. When i reload i will combine 3.60 with up to 3.66 but not the 3.30 or the 3.85 for example.

I have no problem with what others do in their loading regime. Some of my buddies do a lot more to make a loaded round.
But, I wonder if that’s why all my LR classifications are just Master level? I’ll never know.

Easier game ? Lol just poking the bear !

The sound of primers makes my kitty come running and he tries to get one to play with. Loves pushing it around and sliding it across the floor
Cat version of hockey.
My old girlfriend's cat used to find anything in the apartment small enough to "play cat hockey" with. She had to be careful with used tampons after she found one in the hallway of the apartment building. The cat pushed it under the door into the hall.
True story. Maybe this belongs in the humor post?

Since most responders have rightly been asking “does it make a difference on target”, why don’t you start saving your culls so you (or someone else) can do some shooting tests for the very low weight and very high weight and compare to the ones you are keeping. Ideally shoot 5, five shot groups for each of the three primer groups, following the same cleaning practices and shooting paces, very similar ammo temp. and wind, etc., and chronograph the shots too. If you have access to an electronic target, you could just shoot 25 shot groups and measure the spread and standard deviation. Since you said you don’t want data, you could also give your culls to another shooter that is willing to do the tests, again using an e target would be ideal.

my official take on this is it is not worth the time

HOWEVER

look at them to cull the ones that don’t look like primers, seriously

then set them aside and fire 2 sighters and groups of 3 or 4 or 5 and see how they group in dead calm

come to us with pictures and results with at least 5 5 shot groups for at least 5 aggregates like in a br match at 100 200or 300

then we have what I think is somewhat real world conditions of GROUOS to think about evaluating

The nay sayers could do their own testing and post their own results just as easily.

I suggest you do just that and post you’re results.

I could but in the last my similar testing proved no conclusive results to any standard deviation nor in any material group size difference

no need for me to repeat a test from 5 years ago expecting different results as that is just a common definition of stupidity

so you are saying you are too lazy to do it and want someone else to?
