Weighing Cases

I and some friends are shooting off bench's at my farm. Most have some sort of a tricked up factory rifle. I shot BR for a short period 30 years ago and the guy I went to matches with (Larry Englebrech RIP) gave me prep-ed brass. Would weighting cases help me be more competitive if so what kind of a electronic scale would be best suited for this. Does neck turning with a standard chamber help accuracy. Thanks for any help.. Quail season is just around the corner...

If by standard chamber you mean factory, weighing and turning would be taking up quail season time. Go hunt birds instead.

However, if you're referring to one of these tight neck chambered, highly competitive, tricked up BR rifles like this: http://www.stevensaccuracy.com/index.html , your time turning and weighing would certainly be beneficial, as long as you also spend time practicing over a good set of wind flags.

If you can shoot consistent half inch groups at 100 yards. ( Not occasionaly. I mean three of four groups at one half inch ), You might see some difference by weighing cases. Other wise, I agree. Go get a mess of quail and invite us over for supper.

I agree with the other 2 post. I tried turnning neck for a factory chamber and the only difference I found was that it shortrned the life of the cases. If you get into tight necked chambers it may be a must, and with some hot rods you may have to inside neck turn due to the ring that forms in the area where the neck meets the shoulder. With factory chambers I do not turn necks.

Thanks for both your replies. Call or write when your coming to KS. Wife fixes best quail on toast mashed taters and fried apples in the county. One man wanted to trade a brace of champion GSH dogs for her but I like her cookin too well.
