weaver t-36

Looking at a used Weaver t-36 for rimfire. It has a white nylon screw in the lower side, opposite from the turrets. Maybe the 7 o'clock position looking from the back. Anyone have any input what this maybe? Reticle lock of some type?

Correct, a reticle lock similar to the one you'd see on a Leupold 36x with a Tucker conversion lock. If you buy it, then be sure to slightly loosen the nylon screw BEFORE making any turret adjustments. Make your adjustments and then relock, finger tighten only to snug.

Thanks for the info. Does it damage the scope or nylon screw if someone has tried to adjust the turrets with loosening the screw? I don't know all the history of the scope. My friend has only owned for a few months.

I'm assuming it would degrade the integrity of the internals over time if done incorrectly on a consistent basis. The nylon screw is intended to place additional pressure to the erector tube inside the scope by compressing directly opposite the turrets. The theory is it reduces potential shift in the point of impact due to weak or inefficient factory flat springs.

Are the turret adjustment clicks to still audible and feel solid? Since your friend is selling it, perhaps he'll ensure you're happy with it before accepting money?
