Watch your Credit Cards

Gold $$ Contributor
Today marked the 2nd time in 2 weeks that I have had bogus charges on my cards.
Make sure you check daily and only use a TRUSTED site and vendor.
It's a pain calling the card company and answering their questions, I know it's needed to be done.
And the wait for the new card.
Remember be safe and watch your back. Bad guys are everywhere.
And the worst part about this they very rarely catch them.

Went thru the same today . Bank card. They recognized unusual action and froze my account. Amazingly they immediately contacted me and we are going thru the pita process.

It can be an issue which is why we have a working card for physical transactions and a "vanilla" card when we're forced to pass on the details. Even so, it's worth checking your bank account daily at least.

The reason they rarely catch them is that they don't try. Neither law enforcement nor the credit card company give a shit. Law enforcement doesn't have the time at local, state or federal levels and the credit card companies write it off. It's aggravating. Happened to me in the past. Resulted in fantasies of catching the perps and pistol whipping them within an inch of their lives.

The credit card companies are a joke when it comes to resolving issues. Had a card number stolen, let's say from the stage coach bank. Spent several hours over three days on the phone with the stage coach bank. Had to do fraud alerts and a credit freeze, severe pain in the ass. Got it fixed, I thought. When new card never arrived, called stage coach bank. The morons mailed my new card to the address the identity thief had used. No joke. They sent it to the jerk off who had stole it and charged over $8,500 on it. So I immediately closed all accounts with the "stage coach bank".

Not funny but had the exact thing happen to me Thought the issue was resolved new cards never showed called the cc co and sure enough they sent to the hackers address. I thought this s..t only happened to me ;)

I had someone use my number twice in one day at same place. When I did my own investigation. Called police. Called business. I said do you have cameras. Yes. Check cameras and times. Oh they said. That’s great. But you don’t have the authority to do this. Omg. Could have caught this person. Bad thing.is people buy your numbers off the black web

Someone used a clone of my CC at Tiffany's in NYC. They tried to buy a $10,000 necklace twice in one day and were successful on the second attempt. I asked the CC security dept what the thief used for identification; they didn't know. When I told them that there were probably 50 cameras in and around that store and that the thief should be easy to identify they simply stated, "what are you worried about, we aren't asking you to pay for it".

Case closed

I'm so maxed out fraud charges are declined!

My wife seems to get hit more with this than me, I have a few cards compared to her and she does a lot of online shopping. I like to call in my orders and speak to someone when I can. I only have one instance I can think of where someone charged some pizzas to my account.

Have two credit cards at big banks (like Citi). Main card (2% cash back) and a backup card. Set up text alerts and check new charges daily. The good banks will usually identify fraud before you can. They will close the card and send you a new card which you can access online and use immediately. Do not allow sites to store your card information. Use Norton or Google to store the card info so it is easy to use and you do not have to update card info on lots of sites when the card is compromised.

If you really want to be super safe do not use a credit card at restaurants, bars, pizza delivery, fast food, etc. where cash still works just fine.

A couple years ago I tried to buy gas in Rawlins, WY and for some reason they had trouble with one of my cards. By the time I got back to my vehicle the CC company was on the phone. Some are better than others at the security game. I hate it when they just close the account without notice. Bank of America has done that several times.

Who are the charges coming from? Maybe easier to let them post and then dispute it.

I had someone charge $100 worth at a convenience store in Vegas. The CC company took it off and closed the account IIRC.
