Watch collectors?

It can be a profitable investment if you buy the right watch. Buying a used and having the mfg service can be worth while. I return one to have for service it’s be hard to tell from new. Even with stainless bracelet was disassembled and polished to new watch quality.

If you buy an expensive brand used, make sure you get box and all paperwork. It affects the resale value and sell ability. Automatics are great the self winding they will spoil you if you can wear daily.

I used to like Casio digital watches in school.i could count down bell ringing to the second...

Now I rely on the sun or a cell phone..

I thought about one of those Garmin watches but I really don't know what they do.hahaha

I don't think to many good ole boys fool with watches much though.

Decided keeping up with time sucks.im constantly battling the clock at work I don't want one on my arm.

Now I have a buddy who got a $6k Rolex in a grab bag at unclaimed baggage type place.id sell it quickly.lol he's more savvy on uppity stuff than me.I would have thrown it away......

Wa
time x man my self
Way back when, used to ride along with some of the local LEO's.
Got a call of an explosion at the local oxygen bottling plant.
One Guy blown thru a block wall. All busted up inside. Checked his watch for time of death and explosion. You guessed it. Timex!! Still running. Took a licking and kept on ticking.

I have not wore a watch since I retired. Lol.
Used to wear a watch with a calendar dial. Got to thinking, it was pretty bad when I couldn't remember what day it is. That was maybe 30 years ago. Havn't worn a watch since then.

I DO have a couple of pocket railroad watches. One that belonged to my father who I didn't meet till I was in my 50s and one that belonged to HIS father that I never met. Got a couple of Grandsons that might like to have them. ;)

Did see a watch advertised with "only half a face"? Never seen one like that. Thought it might be interesting just to have it. Listed for $99.00.

Well, My wife and I are a little different. We think being late is being disrespectful.
I'am ALWAYS early!! Dr. or any appointment, walk in and take a seat. HAVE had them say, just had a cancelation, we'll take you NOW. :)
Sure beats being late!! I would rather BE THERE so I can cool my heals!! Only takes one accident to make you an hour late. ;)
Couple of weeks ago, BIG accident on the freeway. EVERYBODY was at least 2 hours late. Traffic backed up a couple of miles!! Me? Never in a hurry. Side streets got me where I wanted to go.

Casio atomic solar for play. Citizen atomic Eco Drive for show. My wife gave me a Tag Aquaracer atomic years ago. It’s junk that I refuse to wear. It won’t keep accurate time and runs fast when worn every day. It drove me nuts.

All those watches. Does that mean I have to learn how to tell time too?
A watch face with NO NUMBERS??
Sister was a collector of everything!! She died and I had to get rid of all her stuff. Found a bunch of old watches. Anything that needed a battery, off to the shop for new.
Lots of old original Mickey Mouse watches. Some as old or older than me. Listed everything on E Bay. Sold them all.

I have a friend customer that is the Citizen rep. He gave me an Eco Drive. I do have to charge it occasionally as I wear long sleeve shirts. My Great Grand Daughter was in my drawer and asked about an old lady's Accutron and my Dad's old Lord Elgin pocket watch. I don't know where the Accutron came from, but have had it many years.

Sorry, unless u purchased ur Rolex in the PX during Vietnam, average income folks don’t have one/ daily wear one. Exception would be if u inherited it from a family member.
On a lark, went by the local Rolex dealer and the prices start around $15 k and go up from there. Way out of my pay grade. Well, maybe if I sold my car!
I assume you mean during the war in VietNam.
Go to VietNam, free of charge in say 1966, then get yourself stationed in a place that has a PX, and buy a Rolex.
Hmmmm. Well I did that. Never made it to a place that did have a PX but the military gave me a one week R&R, so nice of them. Si I bought mine in Kowloon. What a great deal! I was so smart.
Still have it. I would rather have passed on the whole adventure and be wearing a Timex today. At least I might care what time it is.

I am not saying that men joined the military during the Vietnam war JUST to purchase a Rolex. No one in their right mind would do that. But that is one path that an ordinary person ended up with , what is today, a very expensive piece of jewelry.
That same, blue collar individual, could not afford to walk into a Rolex dealer today n purchase the same watch they bought in 1965.
The other must have at that time was a stereo system. Name the high end receiver, reel-to-reel tape deck, turn table, and speaker system and the lads came home with them.
All that was a small perk considering the real price/ cost involved.

Not only could you get a Rolex, you wind up looking like this plus quite a few other interesting designs. What a great deal. And a trip that after half a century keeps on giving.

Some of those interesting designs are too creative, ask the vets about their Middle East IED encounters. Never having to purchase a pair of shoes or gloves is not ,to me, a desirable cost cutting strategy.
The other issue of the design u displayed is also the hard fact that we are just getting old. I wonder if they call them “ Golden Years” because of the color of the bruises! Anymore, all u have to do is touch or bump something in the most gentle/ innocent way and it looks like u have been in a bar room brawl.
Old age is not for the faint of heart. God bless you!

Thank you. But I never let the old man in. Yes as you age you can have some colorful bruises. What you see here is the result of a full reversal shoulder replacement 100% service connected to an injury sustained in VietNam on October 1967. Just took its time to become a major problem. Initiated by exposure to agent orange.
I shouldn’t have posted this as I have no desire to discuss it, but today is not a good day for me and I have to learn not to post when I don’t feel well, no posting after 8pm, and no posting until I’ve taken my meds. At 80 years old I still haven’t learned.
Once I can shoot (BR) my 30 BR’s I’ll feel better.
