Flew into Missoula, Montana then came down 93. Got up EARLY and drove to Yellowstone, spent the day there.
Sitting at the Big Bear Motel in Cody, Wyoming now. Gonna see the Buffalo Bill Center of the West tomorrow, then another day in Yellowstone on the way back to Salmon. BEAUTIFUL country! My first time ever being here.
You picked the perfect time for a Western trip. Enjoy WY + ID. Hope Yellowstone is not too crowded. Hwy 93 is a great drive, too. The drive to & through Wisdom, MT is hard to top, if you can make the detour. Country here has not changed much - for a long time. You'll be back, I'd wager.

Hey! I was in Cody a week and a half ago. Got a used rodeo lariat to take home and play with at a shop on the south side of Main Street. Nice little town! Have fun!

I have never been to Montana but I would love to check it out. Have been trying to talk the wife into considering it for retirement. She is convinced that it is miles deep in snow and in retirement she is worried about our ability to deal with adversities. Some truth in that but would love to visit there any way.

I’m sure I will. Came in west entrance left through east. Going back, heading out south through the Tetons and who knows where else. Biggest trip I’ve ever been on, always been a poor boy and didn’t travel much. Gonna see all I can before I have to return to work.
(sorry for that four-letter word)

Check out Cody. Less snow there and no income tax!

It is a nice, clean town. Didn’t know what to expect, never having been here.
I LIKE it! (except for the tourist prices)

Montana is beautiful. Maybe you could check it out.
Never lived there in winter, but think winter lasts along time, and that fact is hard to dodge.
I'm in Idaho & winter is cold & snowy. It all depends on what you expect, vs the reality & are able to tolerate, my .02

no apology necessary :) enjoy the western U.S.

s**t, guess I'm one too. city person. dammit. pls explain. lariat. etc.
Bill, the lariat is the long catch rope that cowboys use to catch wild cattle or to catch a injured or sick one to give it medications. These are usually 30 to 50 feet in length. They also carry a smaller rope or string to tie the cattle down with after catching it. When a cowboy gets his long rope on a animal he either turns the rope several times around his saddle horn to stop the cow “ Dallying”, or has the end of his rope tied on solidly to the horn of his saddle.

I'll make you all jealous and tell you that my daughter lives litterally within a stone's throw of Glacier National Park (near West Glacier). We've been there quite a few times and it's BREATHTAKING!! Last time there we took a helicopter trip over the park, which gave us an entirely different look! Put in some time popping the ground squirrels too. The only thing that has impressed me more was taking a flightseeing trip around Mt. McKinley on a cloudless day and landing on a glacier to boot.
