Warning to Travelers

It's easy to check all laws of the state , county , or city that you know you will be in , even if it's just driving thru .
 
certain states are totally off my travel list. you should be able to get a federal gun permit good in all states for purchase, transport and carry. let them check you out one time and be done with it. or even better dump all these ludicrous gun laws except gun possession with a felony conviction. the only ones the present gun laws effect are the law abiding citizens.

States have there own rules . My state has no auto inspections , other states do , yet I can drive in any state . No need to preach to the choir, just stating the obvious. Would you go to NY , California, New Jersey, or any city without checking the laws ? I wouldn't . What should be ,doesn't change what is AND will not get you out of jail

Actually, I wouldn't go to any of those places. I've been in California. Took my granddaughter to the LA Zoo. Thought I was in Mexico. Even had the animal information signs printed in Spanish.
 
This is worth noting because we have many Forum members who travel to large urban areas for business, or as airport hubs. It's interesting that just yesterday the Second Amendment Foundation issued a similar "Traveler's Advisory" concerning California, my home state:

BELLEVUE, WA – For the first time in its history, the Second Amendment Foundation today issued a "travel advisory" to firearms owners to avoid going to California, warning law-abiding armed citizens that their civil rights could be in jeopardy due to that state's restrictive gun control laws.

"The California Legislature has been out of control for years when it comes to placing restrictions on the Second Amendment rights of honest citizens," SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb observed. "Right now, I wouldn't suggest to any gun owner that they even travel through the state, much less to it as their final destination.

"Lawmakers in Sacramento," he continued, "either ignored or have forgotten that in 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court incorporated the Second Amendment to the states via the 14th Amendment in SAF's landmark case of McDonald v. City of Chicago. The Second Amendment's protection of the right to keep and bear arms applies to state and local governments, but they seem rather oblivious to that fact in the halls of California's Legislature."

Of particular concern to Gottlieb is the fact that California steadfastly refuses to recognize concealed carry licenses or permits from other states. The state's restrictive laws literally leave residents and visitors defenseless.

"If you are licensed to carry in your home state," he warned, "that license is not recognized in California. It doesn't matter how many background checks you've gone through or whether you took a gun safety course. Your license is no good in the Golden State, which suggests that your safety and the safety of your family are of no concern to state lawmakers or city administrators. You could be prosecuted for having a gun for personal protection, or you might get killed because you didn't.
 
The fact remains , you may choose not to go , but if , IF you had too , we need to obey state laws UNTIL WE change them . We need a universal carry ! Hopefully we an accomplish this by a unified fight . I would NOT wish anyone to be marked a felon and forfeit gun ownership .
We have the power now , I hope , to write our president and suggest he HELPS THE CAUSE .
You know the first thing the other party will do , when in power , is rewrite the gun laws .
I'm trying to not make it political, and please forgive me if I've gone too far .

May well be sage advice. As for me personally, only two things I have to do, die and pay taxes. I choose not to be a victim, regardless of unconstitutional laws. Travel unarmed at one's own risk.
 
We had a lecture on that very thing when I went through CC here in Texas and NY was the culprit. It's kind of like Mexico in that respect you can get out of the mess with enough cash. Gun control states are going to harass gun owners any way they can. Some states are like third world countries. It's up to you to know the laws wherever you plan on going. TSA will gladly let you get through just to turn you over to the local authorities for arrest.

stay away.just like the girl from new jersey i think mother in traffic stop..lalala she finally gets it dismissed but lots legal bs. read the laws before you travel there.if dont know leave it behind.i just would not got there.i wont buy a kimber because of there laws
 
FWIW I had occasion three times to "let pass" people who with good intent and blissful ignorance brought a handgun into NYS without meeting the requirements of the law, and then wanted to leave NYS while following TSA "procedure". They came in state, stayed (violating law....possession of a handgun in NY without a NYS permit) and were leaving. I was not in NYC, but was at an airport. NY does not recognize other state permits. So until you get Millions of NYS Obamacrats to vote for a pro gun government, that is how it is.
Not every cop is an azz.
On the other hand, some people are belligerently stupid and there just ain't much you can do for them. Not saying that is the case with anyone here, or your uncle who got popped, or even the case outlined in the OP. Just saying.

This is the very reason why we need a "National Right to Carry" law, forcing other states to recognize permit holder from other states. Every state does it with Marriage Licenses, Drivers Licenses, Pilot's Licenses...etc...etc.. I would imagine it SHOULD go for carry licenses too>>>But obviously it does not. I would imagine "gun / carry" licenses could be argued in court, if you had the money, time and inclination to go thru hell!

Sorry, but while it angers me that anti-gun idiots rule certain areas of our country, I have little sympathy for someone who was stup ..., er, naive enough to take a gun to NYC. Pity, yes, but not sympathy. "What was she thinking!?"

Having said that, I don't blame NYC here. Their gun laws are asinine, draconian and arguably unconstitutional, but I'm sure they don't keep them a secret. I blame TSA and the airline for allowing this gal to step on a land mine. She should have never been allowed to check a firearm to NYC under any circumstance unless she was a federal agent with carry privileges. I'm sure both the airline and TSA personnel knew full well what lay in store for the gal from Georgia when they told her she would be fine. Better she would have been sent home and missed her flight than allowed to wind up in jail.

I viewed the report. The woman who carried her pistol from Georgia to NYC for protection in the hotel is an idiot. Clueless regarding the complexity of firearms law. Reminds me of the guy I saw standing in the local post office with a tricked-out Kimber strapped on his hip. Good thing the local postal employees were as clueless as he was. (Even driving through the parking lot of a post office with a gun in the car is a Federal misdemeanor.) If someone flew into NYC and went straight to Penn Station to catch a train to New Hampshire with an unloaded pistol in his luggage (or vice versa), he might get by with it under the FOPA but you don't travel to or from NYC with a gun.
 
Cynic that I am, I have to wonder that beyond the supposed "Public Safety" concept of these laws, do we in fact have an industry crafted by the powers that be. It seems that since lawyers typically craft laws and then do the manipulations around their administration( is this not a conflict of interest?) do they not stand to benefit from the capricious enforcement of these regulations? Set the system up then pop the unsuspecting 15K$ for every case that "pops up". Beyond the obvious disregard for 2A rights, there is an odor of taint about the edges of this.
