Dicks Shedding Hunting Gear, Rifles, and Field and Stream.

Those are the only 2 large chains near to me, other one is a Dunhams about 45 minute drive away. I have have been to I have bee to Dunhams several times since dicks and field and stream died by suicide with thier decision about black guns and thier types.

In college they taught that the big three were the product, the customer service and the pricing. Business needed to pick two to be successful.

Dicks is 0 for 3 with lousy pricing, lousy service, poor selection.

Couple this with lousy politics and their decline should come as no surprise.

Liberals, in this case anti 2nd Amendment people talk a lot. The good news for us, is that they are generally not doing anything. You would think the anti's would be flocking to Dicks in droves to reward their stand by purchasing sporting goods. Somehow, that has not happened. They are content to watch Dicks go under, and move on to the next cause.

Could it have anything to do with their changed policies, and their corporates attitude toward firearms?
They may have kicked themselves in their Own Dicks

What they are too arrogant to realize is that not only am I gun owner and hunter, but I am also an avid golfer, wife is an avid runner and kids play sports. When they took on guns I made certain we didn't go there for any other stuff either. The funny thing is that I didn't even buy guns there and only maybe a few boxes of ammo or last minute hunting gloves. But the other items we used to spend money on were significant. No more.

Down turn in the market, not political issues forces Dicks to stop selling hunting sports gear including firearms and ammo. No mention of hand guns. They're also considering closing all Field And Stream stores.

The market is shrinking due to lack of a new generation of customers. I blame the internet and video games, but whatever it is, it appears to be a persistent trend.

What ever it is costing them business I don't care after there assault rifle ban they are either with us or against us Urv

Contrary to some beliefs here, Dicks actually did better at underperforming stores after removing hunting gear and guns. Here's a quote from the article, keep in mind that statements concerning business performance that might affect stock values are closely watched by the Feds. A lie could get a CEO's hinny in a bear trap.

Last year, Dick’s removed hunting items from 10 stores where it underperformed. After the removal, those stores generated positive comp sales in Q4. “Following this success,” Dick’s CEO Ed Stack said on the Q4 earnings call, “we will remove Hunt from approximately 125 additional Dick's stores in 2019 where the category underperforms.”

As much as we a gun enthusiasts would like to believe we hurt Dicks by boycotting, there doesn't seem to be any evidence to support that claim. Furthermore, in my very (scratch that, EXTREMELY) conservative County here in Texas, Sportsmans Warehouse, Gander Mountain, and Cheaper than Dirt have all come and gone in the last 10 years. Nearly all during a Democratically controlled W.H. and the big panic run on guns and ammo. So if we're buying everything in sight as soon as it hit the shelves, why are those big name stores going out of business?

The answer is, there's not enough of "US" to keep them going.

The Trump effect has caused business in both Cabalas and Bass Pro, both nearby to me, to drop considerably.
I was in B.P last week, it was deserted. My recent trip to Cabelas gun counter where I usually had to wait 20 to 30 minutes to get help, there was NOBODY at the counter and no waiting for the three sales persons on duty.

That's not a good sign! We need more young people to take up an interest in shooting sports if we want to keep all the choices we have.

Someone, anyone chime in with how we should go about doing that.

Isnt online sales killing brick and mortar stores everywhere? Most of my gun/hunting/fishing stuff is bought online, and I am no youngster. But its much easier, and less time consuming to go online, find what I want and order it. More than anything, that, I suggest, is killing the stores.....but I still think going PC hurt the dicks.

I for one do not have to have an ultra fancy ,full of mounts, high advertising cost and super high overhead place to shop at. Some of the best shops whether they be Gun or automotive are extremely steeped in patina. Kinda like having an old school hardware store u can count on.

Been in a grocery store lately looking for something that you can't find "anymore"? If it doesn't sell in a short length of time, it gets pulled from the shelf and not stocked anymore. No use stocking it if it doesn't move.
Same with Dick''s. If it doesn't move fast enough, it's gone. It's a matter of $$ and cents. Competition is tough out there.
We like to think it was our doing but in fact, there just wasn't that much prophet in it. It's a "bottom line thing". Cash is king and mail order is a killer.
