Warning -- Do NOT Attack Other People's Classifieds

Do you want to fix this???

Do what Sniper Hide does... Make it where you can't post a classified until you have a 100 posts....

I find the problem with this is you end up with a bunch of 3 word posts. I would rather see it as 10-25 posts and maybe a wait time. Like must be a member for at least a month or so.

On the Calguns.net forum when you create a new thread in the marketplace a template comes up like this:
Make:

Model:

Caliber:

Location (city or county):

Price:

Will ship (Y/N):

Other info:

*REMOVE THIS PART BEFORE POSTING*
SELLERS, you may bump this ONE TIME each 24 Hours starting at Midnight
BUYERS, send questions or offers to Seller using Private Messages

LIKE!!!

I still think we should just laugh at them... I mean I like to think we are all just one big dysfunctional family... Mocking the panickers is good therapy...

As far as BTT or TTT. Might I ask what is considered abuse? I have done the BTT and TTT, but have always waited 3 days between bumps. Is this considered abuse or are we talking about a few that may be bumping multiple times a day?

Thanks

The problem with this idea (and it's been considered) is that you get a bunch of "emoticon" posts with people trying to drive up their post count. Some dude joins up and immediately starts :), and :D, and ::), and :o, and so on and so forth, adding zero quality to the given discussion at hand.

The problem I see with having a minimum post count is that I'm sure there are other people out there like me that don't post much, I have been a member here for the last couple years but I'm just a 24 year old kid that has very little knowledge to share but I spend countless hours here every week just reading. I have used the classifieds a few times and would like to continue to do so.

Bump by the OP only if something changes like the price.
Only allowing questions via PM is a big pain because every person would have to send a PM to get basic information that is needed. How many times have we seen a rifle for sale missing the price, caliber, shots down tube or other important info. I like the questions in the open so we can all see. Sometimes the sellers answers tell us the sale is bogus.

As to auto deleting adds after so long; I like to be able to do a search and see past history so you can see what similar items sold for in the past.

What we should be seeing is this:

BRAND XXX (never heard of)
AR-15 stripped lower reciever
$2000 plus $100 shipping

Price drop $1900
Price drop $1800
Price drop $1500
Price drop $1000
Price drop $500
Price drop $50 TYD
Sold!

Then you have to be a member a month to post in classifieds

That doesn't solve anything, you join, wait a whole 30 day's and begin selling, the only posts you ever have to make are the start of your selling thread. I still think it needs to be on the order of post count or a minimum amount of words typed so just a bunch of smiley faces don't count,...heck just leave it the way it is, how or what would we have to bellyache about!
Wayne.

Hah! I wish. We're pretty much limited by what the forum software provides us, which basically comes down to the information in your profile (number of posts, join date, last post date). Which is why this is such a difficult issue to resolve. We have a limited range of information to make a decision on. We could extend the forum functionality by writing custom module, but that's not an insignificant thing, especially when it comes to maintaining compatibility across updates. We're looking at some 3rd party modules, but a lot of them are either overkill, overly-complicated, or expensive to implement (both in time and money).

What about a minimum amount of time spent on the forum, like when we used to had the hour counter at the top of the page that would tell you how much time you have spent on the forum. Just another idea.

Guys Lets keep it simple. You post an ad it doesn`t generate any interest in 3 days you alter the sale.At the end of 7 days you withdraw the ad and rethink what you want to do. No B.S., just plain common sense and consideration for everyone else.

It's nice being able to do a search and seeing what price things are selling or not selling for.

In one of the forums I'm on they solved this problem by not allowing anybody to reply to classified ads. If for whatever reason you feel the need to contact the seller you do it through PM or email. Eliminated all the negative being added to those posts.

Simple, elegant solution.

Most often the best solution is also the simplest.

I agree with this possible solution too. Any questions or more information needed can be addressed in a PM or email by the interested party and the seller ;)

+1

Sounds like that would also eliminate all the BTTs and TTTs, etc.

And I assume the seller can edit the original topic title to indicate when it sells.

This website belongs to the Forum Boss. It's not a democracy, and I suggest that FB can set whatever rules he wants, and the rest of us should simply adhere to them. Me included. :)

I don't think he's looking for feedback. If you don't like what/how somebody is advertising, move on.

Agreed Nate, however some just can't seem to live that way. I know they all get filtered with time.

To the others, the originator is the only one who can respond to their own post so you still get the TTT but nobody else can comment.

I also agree with the 2nd sentence, nice feedback. ;)
I have not seen anything that indicates the boss is not willing to entertain ideas from the members on how to possibly solve a problem.
