Hello All!
It is 12-degrees out, I am off for the day and bored out of my mind... I grabbed a rifle out of the safe that I haven't shot in a while and decided to make sure the barrel was clean and copper free so that I could mess around with some loads for it this spring. This particular rifle is my "Frankenstein" Remington 700 Varmint in 243. "Frankenstein" because I glass bedded the action, replaced the trigger, done some stock work, etc. on it to see how things affected the accuracy.
I ran a few patches of SC/Kroil 50/50 down the barrel and they came out the same color they went in. I then ran a brush (bronze) down the barrel a few times and when I wiped off the road I noticed it was as blue/green as it could be. I then ran a couple more patches of SC/Kroil down the barrel and they were as blue/green as the statue of liberty... I then dry patched until the bore was dry and used some K12 copper remover as per the directions.
I left the K12 in the bore overnight and when I woke up this morning, I dry patched it out. It came out as lime-yellow as it went in - no orange color at all. Wondering if I was not seeing thing correctly, I used a nylon brush with some SC/Kroil and brushed the barrel again. No blue/green color at all. I then used a bronze brush again and too a few passes and the blue/green color returned in full force.
Is the color I am seeing coming from the brush and not copper in the barrel???
Thank you!!!!
Andy
