Wanted: Ruger K77/17 Gunsmith

Randy was my go-to over the years, but apparently due to losing his lease he has decided to close shop and retire. So, who's the new gunsmith specializing in the 10/22's and K77 rimfires?

You got me interested and I did some web research on the 77. It appears Clark Custom Guns is the only obvious one I see mentioned. They say they use Walther barrels. I see Rifle Basics makes a 77 rimfire trigger. I imagine any good rimfire smith could re-barrel one - the barrels are threaded into the receiver. Many comments mention that money would be better spent on other options like Anschutz and Winchester 52s, depending on what your rifle will be used for.

I feel in love with these rifles the first time out. Back in the early 2000's I was shooting the 24-inch in the 22lr, 22WRM and 17HMR. All went to CPC (Randy) to be accurized, including a 10/22. The main reason was to eliminate flyers that came with using "bulk" ammo. Back then the budget I was on and being extremely picky, it was well worth the money that he charged! He had quit the production.

Starting back over now I recently found one and simply want to work with the factory gun as is. Not looking to rebarrel this soon into
having it, as I remember, they were very accurate right out of the box and with a little help from Randy, even better. I'm aware of the aftermarket barrels and other stuff being offered, I'm just looking for a rimfire guru that perhaps has a love for the 77 series.

I guess what I'm looking for in recommendations or referrals that hVe been experienced first hand. Is Clark Custom in that category? I know they've been around a while.

I'd say that it depends on what you want done.
For a Ruger or lever action I'd give Paul a call at Country Custom Metalsmithing.

He's built up quite the following over on Hunttalk.

Devil is in the details, and he pays attention to the details.

Plus he's a member on here.

Many years ago I tried to contact Clark Custom for a similar project. After several unanswered emails and non returned phone calls I gave up.

Thank you, but I'm not taking work right now. Need to cut through some backlog.

Yeah , probably the same boat , lol , I wanted to use cpc to put together a couple of 10-22 actions with the Accuracy enhancements , then he closed shop

CCM ,
I understand your busy but could you tell us what you do to the 77 and 10-22 , do you do acurizing packages of factory comments?
Honestly, I don't do much rimfire work. I mainly do custom work on single shots and lever actions, with some bolt guns sprinkled in here and there.
