I have a friend moving to Kentucky, the Paris area to be exact. He is retiring to a life of gardening and fishing on the "Kentucky Lake". Housing and taxes in the somewhat rural areas are cheap. How is Kentucky?
All you guys bragging on Arizona. Huuuuuuuuuuuush!
I was born and raised in Florida but the summer I spent in Arizona taught me the meaning of "wanting to crawl under a rock". If I could get in the shade of anything, it was pretty pleasant but being out in the sun was murder. Arizona heat can be helped (if not cured) by shade an water. Southeastern heat is only fixed by going into the A/C or swimming hole.Wait till August and see if we are still bragging.
I have been here since '68, never got used to the heat.

Bench, that's correct on the public range at Ben Avery. I think you need to be a member of a group to use the big boy ranges. Rio Salado is basically the same but they have a few steel targets out past 200 on the public range. I'm sure some of the Phoenix area shooters will confirm/correct this at some point. I asked the RSO at Rio if we could shoot the plates and he said "lots of people try". I told my wife to dial xx MOA (can't remember) on her 20 VarTarg and the RSO said "good luck". Of course she hit it on the first shot. It was a big target but tickled the crap out of me anyway.

We're far enough north to get some snow and freezing temps This winter I never got my wool topcoat out of the closet but 4 of the previous 5 winters we've had 6" + snows several times per winter and up to 10 or more consecutive days of daily low temps below freezing. Generally speaking though winters are gentle enough and summers humid but not "frying pan hot" to allow me to shoot year round without much discomfort. As an earlier post indicated about Kentucky Lake (and its neighbor Lake Barkley), along with Laje Cumberland, Dale Hollow Lake, and a dozen or so smaller impoundments are the real attraction for sportsmen, boaters, etc.... The bass and crappie fishing is solid and there are a few stream released trout locations stocked by the Ky DFW.How is Kentucky?
I shoot all year round. Rain or shine, snow or sun, windy or calm.
I'm Canadian.
They have electricity and water no sewerYou should look into Manatee range in Florida, nice spot to shoot. They're always looking for extra help and plenty of places in the area to park a 5th. I think they have hook ups there for trailers,
I always see a few RV's parked when I go there.
I stopped hauling my loading equipment and rifles down to Florida in the winter, too much bs . Now I spend my time prepping brass, bullets and have barrels chambered for the following season.
When I get back I'm ready to go and done with much of the time consuming tedious stuff
I've decided to just bring one 22 rimfire rile and a few pistols to keep me occupied until I get back up north
