Phoenix , aside from nice shooting ranges there are miles and miles of open public areas to set up and shoot and hunt coyotes and jackrabbits.

Bench, that's correct on the public range at Ben Avery. I think you need to be a member of a group to use the big boy ranges. Rio Salado is basically the same but they have a few steel targets out past 200 on the public range. I'm sure some of the Phoenix area shooters will confirm/correct this at some point. I asked the RSO at Rio if we could shoot the plates and he said "lots of people try". I told my wife to dial xx MOA (can't remember) on her 20 VarTarg and the RSO said "good luck". Of course she hit it on the first shot. It was a big target but tickled the crap out of me anyway.

Wait till August and see if we are still bragging.
I have been here since '68, never got used to the heat.

I was born and raised in Florida but the summer I spent in Arizona taught me the meaning of "wanting to crawl under a rock". If I could get in the shade of anything, it was pretty pleasant but being out in the sun was murder. Arizona heat can be helped (if not cured) by shade an water. Southeastern heat is only fixed by going into the A/C or swimming hole.

Other than living in a liberal state, Delaware isn't bad. Weather isn't brutal but with water on both sides and close to the ocean it can get real humid in the summer, good healthcare, low taxes, Bridgeville has 1000 yd. matches, Atglen up in Pennsy has silhouette matches on a regular basis and a 500 meter range, New Holland has precision rifle matches amongst others. Williamsport matches are around 4 hours up the road and many indoor shooting venues if you want to pay the price. I shoot all year round, rarely going more than a week without pulling the trigger. Having said all that, we are prepping (bread and milk) for a major snowstorm Monday night in to Tuesday.

You don't have to be a member of a club or group to shoot on the Specialty Ranges at Ben Avery. You just have to shoot with the club. Basically the clubs reserve the range and provide the safety officers, targets, and other supplies. For instance if you want to shoot on the 1000 yard range you shoot with the Desert Sharpshooters, and they reserve the range 4 to 5 times a week.

Just finished the Cactus a few hours ago at Ben Avery where I have been shooting for the last 20 years. The benchrest range is available to use if you are a member of Arizona Benchrest shooters. There is a group of shooters that shoot every Thursday and there are monthly matches on the first weekend of each month, the last match is April and then they start again in October. If you have an RV you can stay at one of two campgrounds one has elect. And water the other has elect. Water and sewer, or you can go one exit north on 17 and stay at a RV/mobile home park on a monthly rate that is supposed to be pretty reasonable, and ther are currently about a half dozen BR shooters that spend the winter here in AZ. There is also a campground at the Clay Center but it is dedicated too and run separately of the Ben Avery facility. Ther is not any shortage of shooting here, except you probably won't see as much 3 gun here. I could go on forever . This is the nicest facility anywhere in the USA! There is also a program for volunteers you do so many hours per week and they give you a spot for your RV rent free, and I believe you shoot for free. Ranges to 1000yds, and if you want to connect with other user groups for 1000 yds pm me. We usually spend 3-4 months a year down here each year and the range personnel are great and helpful. Yes it was 86, here today in the shade!

How is Kentucky?
We're far enough north to get some snow and freezing temps This winter I never got my wool topcoat out of the closet but 4 of the previous 5 winters we've had 6" + snows several times per winter and up to 10 or more consecutive days of daily low temps below freezing. Generally speaking though winters are gentle enough and summers humid but not "frying pan hot" to allow me to shoot year round without much discomfort. As an earlier post indicated about Kentucky Lake (and its neighbor Lake Barkley), along with Laje Cumberland, Dale Hollow Lake, and a dozen or so smaller impoundments are the real attraction for sportsmen, boaters, etc.... The bass and crappie fishing is solid and there are a few stream released trout locations stocked by the Ky DFW.
Frankly the wife and I are considering a move further south when she retires.

You should look into Manatee range in Florida, nice spot to shoot. They're always looking for extra help and plenty of places in the area to park a 5th. I think they have hook ups there for trailers,
I always see a few RV's parked when I go there.

I stopped hauling my loading equipment and rifles down to Florida in the winter, too much bs . Now I spend my time prepping brass, bullets and have barrels chambered for the following season.

When I get back I'm ready to go and done with much of the time consuming tedious stuff

I've decided to just bring one 22 rimfire rile and a few pistols to keep me occupied until I get back up north

They have electricity and water no sewer
Check with the club for information. Larry
