Wanna be 6Br shooter- Lapua brass neck sizing?

O.K. you kind knowledgable people. I want to make sure I have this right. I just received my lapua brass and was measuring the outside diameter of the necks with a electronic RCBS caliper. The average dimension was .268. My question is, after I fire a few cases, what bushing size under my hard neck measurement should I use? I am not going to neck turn. Do I want to size .001 under, or leave more? Keep in mind I have not reloaded for my 6BR yet. It should be here next week.I have been studying and reading for the last 7 mos. to prepare for reloading my new 6BR. There is just so much information that is hard to find a close place to start. Thank goodness for this websight and the people involved.

I might be reading it wrong, but is your measurement for just the OD neck with or without a bullet seated?

OD without the bullet seated on new brass seems to be a useless measurement.

Seat a bullet you will be using in an empty case THEN measure the diameter of the cartridge neck, subtract .002 and get a bushing of that size. It will give a .001 bullet hold,.001 is for springback after the bushing does its work.) If you want a .002 hold, subtract .003 from the meassurement of the cartridge neck. I like .002, personally.

Jim,

The brass is brand new Lapua. I have not loaded it yet. My original plan was to load a few, and then measare the OD of the neck. Then get just a litte bit smaller bushing. I wanted to make sure I was on the right track. Am I?
Thank you

Hipshot gives a good explaination of what to do. Follow his post. What I've done is get two bushings, and try .001 and .002 less than loaded round.
