VV equivalent to Varget

Tired of the gouging from Hodgedon powders. VV pricing is looking very good in today's market. Have several Dashers using Varget. In your own experience, what is closest to Varget for my Dasher applications running 95 to 105 gr bullets . Any and all advice is appreciated.

Agree VV-N140 would be closer to Varget.

N140 and N135. N135 was developed for the 308W. Works well with 223 and 308 up to 168gr.

Paul I'm running N140 in a straight 6.
I'm wanting to test 150 and 540.
540 is double based high energy, supposed to give higher velocity.

I always preferred R-15 over Varget because of availability. Looks
like things have switched. Never had a chance to really work with it
but, R-15.5 could be a good choice if ever it is found, which I would
not hold my breath ??

I’m like you Paul, transitioning to VV powders and enjoying the results. I’m using N140 and N135 in rifles I would normally be using Varget. I think you’ll be pleased with the results.

N160 is not a direct replacement for 4350, but seems to work in the same applications.

Some lots of N140 are almost identical to Varget and some maybe a grain faster. It has been my experience (sample size of me) that using starting loads for varget and doing the normal work up has been safe in cases up to the size of a GT.

140,540 and 150 are all great choices.
540 is harder on barrels, and 150 may be a tick slow if your barrel is short.

I’ll be using Vihtavuori in everything except one BR that I am about to receive, which I have 8 pounds of the mystical 8208 for.

I’m slowly convincing friends to make the switch as well.

Some may say that the temperature sensitivity of VV 1 series powders is greater than that of the Hodgdon extreme. I haven’t seen anything crazy to support that, and the nodes are so much wider with the VV that you’d probably never notice.

Vit N540, looking at the energy content of the powder. N140 is close speed wise but you will likely need to pack more powder in to achieve the same speed as Varget as N140 is noticeably cooler.

Not a Dasher but in my straight 6BR N150 is giving me almost exactly the same speeds as Varget. It surprised me. Maybe I have some odd lots of powder? Dunno but I'd try N150.

I've ran varget in my 204r for ever now and have been curious as to N140 or maybe N130.
