I should have also mentioned that without a tuner it will also show how good the ammo you are using to tune with. worst thing to do is use unproven ammo to tune with, you will never know was it the setting or the ammo. the lot of CX,1962 is a proven lot from the Mesa test center producing a 11mm group and this was off a rest not from the jig.

This is partially a weather report, but I did get to shoot a few rounds at 100 with and without the tuner. The wind was changing from various directions. I tried to shoot in the same conditions and when there was only light pushes. I did ok but got caught a couple of times.

I did not see much difference between the groups with and without the tuner. Those with the tuner gave a slight edge. I did not shoot a10 shot group without the tuner. The ten shot groups came last and I did not have time to take the tuner back off.

I wanted to make sure that the tuner was not causing a problem. It is not. I will now go back to a more organized approach, testing 100 at all settings and then without the tuner.

Forgot to add, all of the groups at 100 were less than 1 inch. The best 5 shot group was around .17 and the best 10 around .7. The worst group was the second 5 shot group at .9. The barrel was still warming up. The group after that was the best group at .17.

It is tuned at 50 yds. ? trying to tune at 100 will be very challenging. also at 100yds. ammo is the key as you can find ammo that shoots at 50 but falls apart at 100

I am not sure, but some say my rifles are not tuned at 100yds. I only tune at 50 some examples- 2 different rifles both match 54 these are old examples as I haven't shot 100yd matches since covid. the red target the shot at 8 o'clock was the 1st shot and the following 9 were in the group. the 3 -shot group was a factory barreled 1413. if they are not tuned I wonder how they would shoot when they are.

Below are four good ten-shot groups shot on the same day last September. The caliper shows outside-to-outside dimensions. Of all the groups shot with this lot, these were among the best.

But not all groups with this lot were similar. Over a period of a couple months and across a total of 31 ten-shot groups, this lot averaged about .930" with this particular rifle which was without a tuner. With another rifle, also without a tuner, across 58 ten-shot groups the average was a wee bit better, but essentially the same.

Thank you and all the others for chiming in. I know there are a bunch of Rimfire shooters out there. I think a lot of the .22 shooters must be afraid to share a lot of info.

@Ccrider have you bedded your MPA? MPA chassis are not perfect and bedding can sometime help a little with accuracy and a lot with repeatability.

Here is where I am now. Shorting at 100, I shot 5 shot groups all the way around the tuner. My notes are bad and the target is messy so I will not bother to post it.

I then picked the 6 setting and shot a 10 shot group. Did not like what I saw so I picked the next best 5 shot group setting, 10 and shot a 10 shot group. It turned out a nice round .61 inch group, so I shot 3 more ten shot groups at the 10 setting. By the last group I was losing daylight and relied more on the gun riding the bags. It ended up a .96 group. The 4 ten shot groups averaged around .80. I will work around the 10 setting and see how they hold up. I expect they will be better.

I have right at 800 rounds down the barrel. I think the barrel is settling in and shooting more accurate. I know my gun handling and feel for shooting the .22 is getting better. Consistent butt pressure and trigger break is imperative for this gun. The slightest change shows on the target, more so than aiming a little off.

I cleaned the barrel and shot two 5 shot groups to foul. Then started 10 shot groups. First setting was at 10- a decent .85. Then setting 11 netted 1.39, making me think I was definitely going the wrong way and was out of tune. So I decided to go the other direction and tried setting 9. Like magic- a decent .79 10 shot group. I was hoping 8 would be even better. 9 out of 10 went into a nice .51 group. The 1 outlier doubled the group size to 1 inch. Settings 7 and 6 went .92 and .89.

I only have 100 rounds of this lot of Center x left. I am getting close to 1000 rounds. I will then send the gun off to the test center to see if they can find a better lot of ammo, maybe one that will eliminate the one or two flipped shots that I am seeing too often.

In outdoor conditions, consecutive ten-shot groups can very easily be different in size. There's a lot to influence group size, from wind to ammo variation within the same lot.

I am shooting over wind flags and paying close attention to minor shifts. The “flippers” I am seeing are not wind induced. It seems to me that the .22 reflects smaller differences in gun handling, requiring very consistent stock pressure and trigger pull my. Any variation shows in the target. I have done my part for the most.​

With that said, I am confident that the group size is being influenced mostly by ammo variation within the lot.​

Following up on this post. Sent my Vudoo in to the test center and ordered the suggested lot of ammo. Finally had time to shoot a few rounds so I started with the tuner test. 15 five shot groups as suggested by @gunsandgunsmithing. First test at 51 yards. Did not see the movement in impact point but definitely saw a change in tune. I reshot two 10 shot groups at 20.

#20 is a great group but it did not repeat. Notice there is a big change between #18 and #20 and also between #20 and #22. This may be a fluke group. I would be looking at #14 and #16. Both very similar and as good or better than the two repeated #20 groups. What you need is consistent results and I say #14, #15, and #16 is where I would be looking.

I will test more and see. I have plenty of ammo and this gun is fun to shoot. The two follow up groups at 20 were 10 shot groups. Hard for me to compare them to the 5 shot groups.

I like 20 but you might test 19 and 21 too. I like it because the couple of groups on both sides of 20 did exactly what I look for them to do...vertical, then to diagonal. The 10 shot groups at the bottom aren't bad but show what could well be wind picking up toward the end of the test. I wasn't there, so no way to know except to say if they had gone up and to the right from a rh twist bbl, you could rule wind out, but they didn't. I'd also go back and test 13 14 and 15. I'm off here mostly until at least Sunday but good shooting!
