question, with a clean barrel, where does the first shot go to on that target with the clean barrelI will spend some time with setting 12 and see how it shoots. I also have a different lot of Center X that I will try at setting 12 to see if it holds up.
That's a really stiff barrel and there's not a lot of muzzle deflection...amplitude.Ok. I understand. I was expecting poa change from high to low too. However, there does not seem to be any with a complete rotation of the tuner. I don’t know why. It is a stiff 20 inch barrel-MTU contour. Maybe @gunsandgunsmithing will chime in.

I thoroughly cleaned the barrel and then reshot 24 at the top. The first shot went low and out of the group. The next 9 went into the same group. I moved the setting to 26 and then 28 and shot five shot groups. They both threw one shot out of the group. I moved on to 30 and the first shot went out again. The next nine went into a nice group. I moved the tuner to 0 and shot another ten shot group. They went into a nice .336 group.question, with a clean barrel, where does the first shot go to on that target with the clean barrel

Ii have not cleaned the barrel since then. I am not sure that much cleaning is required. I will run a patch with boretech Rimfire cleaner through it and let it sit overnight and then dry patch the rifle before I shoot it.
Yes. 26 and 28 threw a shot low and to the left. 30 threw a shot to the left and then put nine into a nice group, around .3. 0 put 10 into a ..336 group.Ccrider,
So, at Zero (0) setting it put all 10 into the .336 group? if this is the case you need a lighter tuner.
I forgot to ask where did the shots that were outside the group with the 26 & 28 setting go from POA? did it go left by chance?

The thrown shots could have been the barrel settling back down after cleaning.
Why do you say a lighter tuner?
Lee,Ccrider,
I believe it should be lighter because at the zero (0) setting it didn't throw a shot by what you said. how does it group without a tuner?
Low left means you have forced deformation occurring too much weight at the crown. even a clean barrel with a tuner with correct weight and at the correct setting would not throw a shot left as the barrel fouled.
if anything the very first shot out of a clean bore should be right, unless you are using a left-hand twist barrel. think right-hand torque as the bullet travels down the barrel, barrel motion would pull to the right so shots go right naturally.

Yup mines do that too high right just about 1 o'clock. after about 30-40 rds. and I run a wet pellet and 3 dry pellets, first shot a lot of times is center of POALee,
My first shot out of a clean barrel in both my Turbo and in my factory Annie, put the first shot at 1 o'clock from POA, approx 4 clicks up. I have had a few RFBR guys tell me in the past, that I have a good tune. The only time i have not experienced this is when i have cleaned the barrel and shot the next target wet.
I was thinking the same thing. I will try the tuner out a fe turns further and see if that changes anything.Your poi still isnt moving according to tuner settings. You may still be a few turns in or the tuner isnt heavy enough to tune
I doubt moving it out will make much difference but it won't hurt to try it. Ultimately, I think it's just a really stiff barrel and only 50 yards. Just not much amplitude to show up at close range. JMHO. Frankly, I believe tunability is much of the reason that less stiff bbls and even reverse tapers work well in the rf game. Now, that's not at all saying that a stiffer bbl won't shoot well. It's just harder to see tune, especially at 50 yards. Even on cf, I've gravitated back toward less stiffness in the barrel, using mostly my own contour but it's really close to a std lv contour. They just "talk to me" better than my big bbls, making tune changes more apparent. It's tough to tune what you can't see on the target...particularly in conditions. I have a very good "big" bbl that I've had a lot of success with. I've set it back like 3 times now. It's really stiff! It's a 1.250 straight that is now down to a little under 22". Yes, it can shoot but it's a little harder to tune to the hilt.Maybe @gunsandgunsmithing will have more input.
Those factory vudoo barrels are about as stiff as you can getI doubt moving it out will make much difference but it won't hurt to try it. How does it shoot without a tunerHad a little time this afternoon late- enough to burn 50 rounds anyway. I had cleaned the barrel and decided to try the other lot of Center X I have. So far I have a total of 480 rounds down the barrel. The best tuner setting on the first lot ended up being 6. I posted my last groups with the old lot below.
This new lot seems to shoot at just about every setting. The flier at the 4 setting was me. The flier at the 10 setting was the gun or ammo-I did my part.

Good question. I will see.How does it shoot without a tuner
