One of the things a lot of the younger guys don't "get" about Nam , is that it was more of a Individual experience . Meaning ; most of us went "In-country" alone , and then through Reception at Ben Hoi , or Da Nang , then to a Unit training center , or straight to a Unit . Then ; We DERO's the same way . Maybe with a guy or two we had served our tour with , but mostly alone . So it changed the entire experience for many of us . There was transitions of Units as a Unit , but that was the exception , rather than the rule . So in many ways , My Nam experience was different than another guys , even though we were in the same Unit for most of our Tour together . Hope that helps explain things a little .
