It's Veterans Day !

I was able to participate in a Veterns Day program at an Elementry School my grand nephew attends. There were 40 some veterans who were relatives of the kids and all were recognized. It was good to see a school, rural, traching the kids some real history and not CRT.

My family's contribution to this Great Nation.

Dad --- Bataan Death March Survivor. 26th Cavalry Regiment. Korean Combat Veteran
Oldest brother 2 tours RVN
2nd oldest brother 3 tours SEA
3rd oldest brother 2 tours RVN
Younger sister SEA

Dad and all siblings retired from the US military. I put in 6 years on USAF. Total we served 120 years.

Mom served the longest with her daily prayers.
We love you Nez! Wasn't your Dad's Regiment the last mounted Cavalry? The book about his group in the Philippines during WW11 is a great book to read.
I was lucky to be a military dependent. Just a great life growing up with kids that had discipline and determination.
I tried to enlist in 1961 and they were not taking married people at that time. I tried again in 1962 and they wouldn't take people with children.
Grandfather -Navy WW1
Father-WW11 and 26yrs
Uncle-WW11 Navy carrier pilot
Uncle-WW11&Korean War-with Patton
Uncle- WW11 Navy carrier pilot
Brother-Army Vietnam
Son-Air Force 23 yrs

I'm very proud of them all!
I need to add:
Brother in Law-23 yrs Air Force- Vietnam
Cousin-21 years Air Force.

Butch, yes the 26th Cavalry was a mounted unit. The last US Army cavalry charge on record was executed by the 26th.

To all of my fellow Veterans, Thank You.

And to all of my fellow Veterans that were Drafted. We are getting fewer in numbers every year.

We Draftees tend to be proud of the US in front of our Service Number.

I have said that if I had an old age dream, it would be, sometime in the future, to be the last person alive that was drafted into the military. I doubt I can make it, I am spotting thousands of others by about 5 years.

I was already in basic when the draft notice showed up.

I grew up in a family of veterans. I was awed as a child when I saw all the pictures on my grandparent's walls. There were 9 uncles and my father that fought in WW2.

When I was 7 or 8, my father took me on a road trip to visit his buddies' graves in numerous cemeteries. He told me of their sacrifices and why they went to war. He told me that he hoped my brothers and I would never have to go to war.

It turned out that we all ended up serving in Vietnam and then a son serving. There are fewer pictures on the walls, but our pride is still there.

My 6 year old grandson called me this morning to thank me for my service. That made my day and reminded me of all the Veterans.
