Varmint Hunter Claimants

Has anyone received a letter from the Varmint Hunter's lawyer ? States if I submit my claim I "might" be eligible for a $2.00 distribution !!

That will ALMOST cover the cost of my Life membership !!!

Just tried to create my own post about this on the main board, don't think it worked, but you have it covered already, lol.
My letter arrived today.
Unfortunate.

I got my letter today, was a life member.Less than $2.00 is not worth our time.

I will more than likely just file it in the trash

Exactly what they are counting on (though I don't blame you a bit, for all of two bucks).

The interesting question would be just how much these lawyers are "settling" for, and how much of the initial pool of money is "unaccounted for".......

Got mine yesterday too. Heck I'm not leaving all that money for the Lawyers, for the price of a postage stamp I'll send in and see what I get and buy a friend a beer with it. :) WD

It's a shame a Good Lawyer don't pick up and file a class action lawsuit for everybody. You might not get much money but it would cost them in legal fees and maybe find out where the money went. Matt

I wasn't a life member so I imagine I won't get the letter.
Does anyone here know exactly what is going on with them since the sudden shut down?
If the owners are connected to the firearms/hunting industry anywhere that company will not receive any of my business.

What's the lawsuit about? I wouldn't give anybody let an unknown lawyer my signature on a legal or non-legal form for $2.00 bill. The stamp cost $0.49. Does a notorize cost $2? The OP says the $2.00 is a maybe. I would think a lawyer couldn't recoup his cost with such a small claim. What's the total claim for?

Added later:
Just remembered Varmint Hunter was a magazine? Is this the magazine that collected annual fees then folded after 1 or 2 issues and kept the rest of the fees?

I just got the letter today. The first sentence:
"Varmint Hunters Association, Inc. will be dissolved pursuant to SDCL47-1A-1420 and 1421."
I see nothing hinting at a lawsuit. My take, for what that is worth, is that South Dakota law provides for claims to be filed against the company and any proceeds, once liabilities are met, would be distributed among the claimants.
"Please note, with the number of creditors involved, and subscribers, and limited assets, your expected distribution is likely to be less than $2.00."
I am very interested in knowing what happened to the club house and property, including the almost new range, and who might be controlling that now.

I wasn't a life member and I haven't received any letter, but if I did, I doubt that I would just throw it away. That organization robbed it's members! I wouldn't just roll over and give up...... that's what they are hoping for! As others have said, what happened to the property?

Upon reading again I find that the letter was actually sent by the attorney that REPRESENTS VHA, Inc.
Maybe we should all file claims, life member or not, and see what happens. Or, maybe we should contact the State of SD to see just what status the whole deal is in, IE creditors, assets, and what type corporation the VHA was set up as.
