Varmint for score bullets? 6br

I'm planning on using the Sierra 75gr HP Varminter for my 250 Savage bench rest build.

I've had many a short range bench rest shooter recommend varmint bullets. VMAX, BlitzKings and the such.

I guess all those people shooting PPC’s with 65 gr bullets in 14 twist barrels are doing something wrong.
Take note of my screen name. Shooting 6ppc at 100 and 200 yard score is a tough way to go if your realistic. I shoot a PPC a lot to 500 yds but, a big hole is a big hole shooting dots at 1& 2. Actually I have shot quite a few matches out to 500 yds and shot both a PPC and a 30br in the same MATCH. Have won multiple matches both ways. Not a huge difference, 6 might drift a tiny bit less than the 30 after 3 but not by much . Plus big advantage seeing the 30 hole even at 3 depending on the light and conditions. Look at the results on the IBS website and tell me what you see. This is what makes the UBR game attractive. The first 500 yd MATCH I went too I was told by 3 people to get a refund I was not competitive. I won, they shut up. Then I shot the first perfect score at that MATCH ever recorded, with my 10.5 lb 6PPC. But, I also know what gives you a pretty good edge in certain matches. If I could only have one rifle it would me 6ppc, but very easy to screw one caliber off and another on.

I guess light 6mm bullets aren’t so bad.

Only one way to look at it. The other way is precision over running a train thru a wall hoping to get it all. The ppc is easier and cheaper and more friendly on the bench
Your totally correct in your last 2 sentences. The national bodies dropped the ball almost 20 years ago. They made mediocre shooters relevant. Irregadless, we have what we have. I don't like it the way it is but 100, 200 yard score with a 6mm vs the 30 is a losing game. That is why our club has went to an UBR target match.

Did the records fall in ibs score or nbrsa when the 30 became popular? I havent ever looked. Ive got one of the first ones ronnie long made. It held or still holds a group record in nbrsa

I belive the score records fell often for a bit. Funny you should bring that up. I looked yesterday at all the IBS records and very few have been set in recent history. A lot go back into the early 2000's. I went to an IBS 100 yard MATCH years ago and shot 22xs. That was my top score at that point. I was 4th or 5rh. I went looking for a 30 barrel the next day. I can be stubborn but I knew then the 6mm at short range score was a dead horse. The 30 br is a fun cartridge, accurate, easy to tune but it helped push me away from the IBS. I have a 30 barrel on one gun right now for the upcoming 200 yd winter matches. So we have better optics and tuners but a lot of records not falling. Why?

When my 6BR had a1:14 twist it shot the Berger 68 FB with Varget best, but with it's new 1:8 twist Hart the Berger 88 gr Flat Base Varmint part # 24323 and Varget works better especially at 200. We don't shoot 300 at my Range. I wish I had a 30BR sometimes when I am so close but not there. One shooter brought a 6.5X47 Lapua necked up to 30 cal. and shot 115 gr bullets and cleaned our clocks but I don't remember what twist he used. I used to shoot NBRSA Hunter Benchrest with a tight neck 308 and Berger FB 135's and did all right but the recoil in a 10# rifle made for a long day.
