What powder would you fellas use in a 6br with a 10 twist shilen and 80gr berger bullets? I tried varget and it wasnt all that impressive. I am now shooting Benchmark and the accuracy is good. I just want to be sure i am not missing anything by not trying any other powders. My rifle is a varmint hunting rifle, if that matters. I only hunt coyotes and the weather is usually pretty cold. Any thoughts? thank you! Lee

Yes, N135 is also my first choice for the "middleweight" bullets, 75 to 90 gr. Lighter get N133, and heavier get Varget.

Hey Frank. So for the 70 grain bullets N133 is the ticket? I'm asking because Sierra doesn't even list it in their reloading manual for the 70 grain match and Blitzkings, just N135.

If N133 works for lighter bullets, I assume H322, H335 and Benchmark would be good powders to try?

otter: Yes, N133 was a carry-over from my 6ppc powder supply. Began using it with the 68 gr. Berger #24411 in my 14 twists in my 6BR's, tried it with the 70 gr. Sierra #1505 and both have been consistantly accurate over the years. Using 30 grs. of the N133 with those 2 bullets: a little on the light side I know, but has been a "winner" to & including 300 yds. 31.5 of N135 is the load used with the 75 to 85 gr. bullet weights, 1-9.25 and 1-8 twists. Use a lot of H322 and sometimes H335 in the AR's but never tried either in the 6BR's.

Frank, I ask about H322 because it works in the 6PPC and is a recommended powder along with N133. Top two powders according to this website. If one works, the other should too? I could be wrong with that reasoning.

I will be giving it a try though. H322 is my go to powder in a Savage LRPV .223, with 55gr and 69 gr bullets. Was quite surprised it worked so well with the heavier bullets in that caliber. I always thought because it was a faster powder it was more suited for the 40-50 grain bullets. It works better than Varget in this particular gun for all bullet weights, which really surprised me. Varget seems to dominate my small group collection in almost every gun.

otter: When I first started playing with the 6ppc in 1998, VihtaVuori was very difficult to find in my area, so frequently used the easier to find H322, and never had any issues with it. Since then I've found several easy sources for N133, and N135, and do not hesitate to buy it in 8# jugs, but if the source should dry up, would not hesitate to return to H322. Remains a first choice in my 222's, and for some reason does better than the N133-- go figure. Varget is my #1 first choice in 6 223 chamberings, from a single-shot Ruger #1 (Shilen barrel), to Sako & Savages (Hart barrels) to AR's (Krieger barrels), all bullet weights 55 gr. to 80. For some reason 24.5 to 25.5 grains (depending on bullet weight) just seems to be "right".

+ 1 on N135 and H322 for bullets around 70gn. Another that has given me good results, and with 55gn varmint bullets too, is Accurate Arms 2015.

I've had good luck with VV N135, my best results with the 8o gr Berger was 30.0 H4895 Rem 7 1/2 primers about .010 off the lands with 1-10 twist Lilja

I am shooting the 80 gr Fowler +15 into the lands, with 31.5 grains of R15 and CCI 450 into sick little holes around 1/8" with my Kreiger 1-8 barreled 40xbr.

anyone want to trade a pound of 08 lot 133 for a pound of 135. I will make it a heavy pound!! Thanks Lee
