VARGET Lot Number

How much slower you talking?
I had to load almost a grain more powder to get the same velocity of the older lot I was using but not getting the same accuracy. My barrel doesn't like the new powder. It seems to likes a quicker burn rate.

How much variation in accuracy are you getting ?

I was getting .3s to .4s with federal brass, 210m primers and 175 SMK. Lapua brass for some reason was a bit tighter. The new lot of powder with federal brass 210m primers .4s to .7s. On a good day with the old lot, Lapua brass, 210m, 42grs Varget= 2644fps and .3s with sometimes a group in the .2s. I only have 25 rounds of this left.

You could switch to RL -15

Went to the range today with out flags to try out the IMR 4064.
Cloudy 52*F 5-10 mph wind. First up with a cold clean barrel.
41.5grs =2605fps 62.96es 25.94sd .520" group.
42grs= 2653fps 17.42es 6.92sd .454" group.
42.5grs= 2673fps 37.93es 15.45sd .632" group.
43grs= 2706fps 27.38es 11.44sd .732" group.
That is better results than I was getting from the 7061 lot of Varget.
.520" from a cold clean barrel and 6.92 SDs after warm up looks like a powder that may work with the 175gr SMK. The 41.5gr load would have looked better shot from a warm barrel. The 42.5gr load had 4 into .254" with one going high opening up the group to .632" that could have been caused by a head wind or being right on the velocity edge.
Each load changed the POI by 1/4" in elevation with 41.5grs the highest to 43grs being the lowest showing that SDs are important.

I hope your new lot of Varget works for you. I couldn't get 7061 to shoot and had to switch to another powder. I have IMR 4064 shooting just as well as the older Varget but I only have 1 pound. I hope the 8lb lot I buy of IMR 4064 is just as good.

Anybody mix powders from different manufactures to try to compensate for slower/faster burn rates?
Or, is that a dangerous idea because of settlement issues in the case?

Varget seams to vary lot to lot more then any other powder. That said I have been really lucky my last to jugs.
