Right now I using 42.0 grains of varget pushing a 175smk at about 2600fps,and my barrel length is 28in.Does this seem a little slow?Also my 500yard zero is 12.25moa.I think with that long of a barrel I should get a little more speed out of it.

Might be able to get a little more speed with one of the Vitavouhi N5-- series powders. But I think that is pretty much what you can expect. 308 is a very effecient cartridge I believe and doesn't need that length of barrel to acheive that speed. This is all in my opinion though, I not a renown expert.

Have you done any accuracy testing with varying charges of Varget? It doesn't make much sense to strive for the highest velocity if your accuracy falls off.
That said, 42.0 gr. is a little on the light side with 175 SMK's and Lapua brass in my experience. Try somewhere around 44 gr. You should get at least 2700 MV with fine accuracy. My pet load is 44.2 gr. Varget with no signs of excessive pressure, but as I've told you before, YMMV

Not much,I was too afraid of over presure.Im going to work up some loads and for this weekend,starting at 42.0 to 42.5 all of the way up to 44 with 5 rounds each.Also I going to switch to the bigger bushing that will give me .002 of neck tension.Ill let you know how they fly.
Also the more I think about it the more I think I used the wrong bushing I think that I used the .336 before and that gave me some great results.

I had it out saturday and I started at 42.0 of varget and also switched back to my .002 neck bushing.It shot a nice little group at around 2650fps,then went to 43.0,2700) and it was an even smaller group,43.5,2740) and it shot the smallest Ive ever seen .222 was the size.Then I went to 44.0 it went slower.Has anyone seen this?
Im going to load some for this weekend again and retest then re-zero for each range.
