V22-s Bolt stop ?

I'm not a gunsmith by any means of the imagination, but can the bolt stop on a RF action be removed and replaced by the average person, or is this for a good gunsmith?? I'm not real keen on shipping the barreled action back to Vudoo due to all of the recent changes in shipping firearms, etc., and things getting lost by the few shippers that do transport firearms.

Don’t know for sure but it probably just has a pin holding it in and spring behind it. Should be that big of a deal

Yes it is not a hard thing to change out. Remove the barreled action from stock and look for a set screw on the left side just outside the bolt raceway as viewed from the tang of the action looking down the bolt race. Remove this screw while holding the bolt stop to keep it from popping out before you are ready. Once the screw is removed, the bolt stop will likely fall right out but be careful of the spring not to loose it, It is very small. When you go to reassemble, put a small dab of petroleum jelly on the tip of the spring and insert it into the spring pocket. That will help hold it in place while you assemble it. Stick the new bolt stop into the recess in the action and reinstall the screw. Once you get it apart and see how it is together, you will have no problems with this.

Thanks for the step by step and the warnings. I've got a new bolt stop in the mail from VGW, and was told it was a relatively simple process by VGW. I do know that "simple things" can get complicated in a hurry tho. Thanks again.

Don’t loose your little spring. They can go places and never be seen again. Ask me how I know! Lol. Good luck. They are super easy to change out. I’m sure you will be fine!

Wanted to update thread for anyone that may be in the same situation as myself.

I followed the detailed steps that Tad provided above (thanks) and must say I did a good job of following the instructions provided. LOL

The set screw mentioned above in Tad's reply is actually the pin that holds the bolt stop in place, most may know this but since I was a virgin on bolt stop removal, I was wondering how the broken bolt stop would come out when I removed or loosened the set screw. Basically, you have to remove the set screw, but the set screw is also attached to the pin that holds the bolt stop in place. Once all of the set screw threads are backed out of the action, just start wiggling the set screw while holding the bolt stop in place with a finger or thumb and you will see how it all fits together. Installing the new bolt stop is just the reverse as you have to wiggle the pin/set screw combo back in while keeping the spring in place and then tightening the set screw. I did not take a picture of the set screw pin, (duh) but it's a smooth pin that is fitted thru the bolt stop with the set screw threaded portion acting as the "head" and is just screwed in and snug it down. I even maintained control over the spring the entire time.
