USPS delivering UPS packages?

after watching tracking info from UPS & seeing my pkgs not being delivered but were in town i thought i'd go pick them up only to find they'd been delivered to the post office for delivery!UPS guy said they have a contract with USPS to deliver pkgs that are less than a certain size! and to think they charge a surcharge for fuel for delivery!

Yes they do this quite a bit anymore. I ship everything USPS they are cheaper, they are just as fast and your package will get there in one piece. Their flat rate boxes are FREE!!!
UPS damaged enough of my packages.

They use it mostly for residential deliveries where they have to send a truck a long ways with just a few packages. Their rates are so high they can subcontract to have USPS deliver and they still make money. Maybe we should just be using USPS!

I'll second this!

longrange223: The original shipper. The one you are holding the receipt from. What they do with it is their responsibility.

I use usps flat rate shipping when possible & for the most part, they have been very good. 3 days to almost anywhere.

I shipped a scope to Leupold via USPS. After a week plus, I checked with tracking, it was in UPS's Memphis center. P.O. played the no speak English routine, when asked why. Don't know what condition it was in when it got to Oregon-- Leupold sent me a new scope.

+1 I support USPS for all my diliveries. UPS is a rip off, especially to Hawaii. They will drop your package off to anyone in the area if you are not home to receive it. It's happened to me, and I was not happy. It took a whole bunch of doodoo to get my money back when they could not locate my items. Good thing the package wasn't too important, like gun stuff or something.

When companies refuse to send using USPS, I will not do business with them. I let them know too.

I use USPS only. Insurance with them is cheaper. You do not get the run around if something is lost or damaged. (happened once) Wait 21 days and you get a check. I simply had to many things badly damaged by UPS, always the same story. "It was not packaged properly".

Not quite my experince with USPS. I am selling a collection of Sako rifles. I always use USPS insured. Last year they broke stocks at the wrist on two L57's in the same week. I did save my receipts. They have a claims section on their website. They wanted: the original PO shipping receipts; sales receipts to the buyers; Photos of the guns; statements from the buyers regarding condition of each gun when received and a pre-sale appraisal of value for each. I had to buy them back, have them returned to me and take them to a local PO with the boxes and packing. If guns are not packed securely, they will deny the claim. This entire process took 5 months. They kept asking for more documentation. Oh yeah, they initially denied the claims because I am not an FFL licensed dealer. I had to read them the BATF mailing regs, and that was the end of that tactic. I will not use UPS, too many horror stories. I am still using USPS for the reasons stated above. After settlement, they kept the guns.

I have had good experiences with the USPS lately on small packages. I use UPS for larger items. Never had a problem with either.

USPS offices are convienient, they are cheaper and they are making an effort to provide better service. This is based on my personal experiences.

I've been shipping hundreds of packages a month for the past 11 years. I've used all the shipping companies. We ship domestically and worldwide. Bottom line, UPS is the best. We use them for almost everything. The only exceptions are Hawaii by Fedex, AK, PR, USVI, GU by USPS Priority Mail, and South America by DHL.

I 2nd this also. I got tired of being bent over and having to run around to find a place to ship. So far so good with USPS, they have been good to me so far.

You guys should seriously look at Fed Ex Grd. If you like UPS, you'll love Fed EX. SAME price only a 99% or better on time delivery & in better shape. What a lot of people don't understand is that UPS & Fed Ex have guaranteed delivery times. If they don't make it on time, you can get your shipping costs refunded & I have on several occasions. The 1st thing you will hear for UPS is that the airport was fogged in so look at the weather for the last 24 hours at the closest hub to you. They don't have a prayer when you tell them visability there was 12 miles for the last 24hours.

Every delivery day (Mon thru Fri), there's a Fed Ex truck stopping at out Local (Rural) Post Office to drop off packages.
And I've seen UPS there also. Lots of back (dirt) roads that they can't tarvel on? Makes for a good pickup point.

I placed an order with Midway on Monday morning, and it was shipped that day via "Surepost"....the only decent price option presented at the time of order: $9.88.

The package was received at the UPS site here in Monroe at 4:47am Wednesday, and 7 hours later transferred to the post office. I hope to see it today.

I've had good success using USPS Priority mail for small packages and even rifles....what I object to is shipping it part way via UPS, and then wasting a day while its transferred to the Post Office.

Previously there was an option where one could choose USPS or UPS......

I"ve told Midway that unless their policy is changed, and they return to offering economical rates with options for Priority Mail, First Class mail or ground UPS, my business will be going to Sinclair/Brownells or Midsouth Shooters.

The USPS also delievers FEDEX parcels along with tons of UPS parcels. The fedex contract runs out this year though and UPS is trying to take that from fedex to ship even more via USPS. Tough as they stiff everyone on the fuel charge whislt USPS does not.
