Bad day for UPS...

i used to buy a lot from midway...no more. i could order on sunday and have my stuff in 3-4 days.
now with the usps added to the process it takes several days longer. they lost me as a customer. it arrives a couple of miles from my house and they have 5-7 days to deliver. and it aint cheaper on my end!

I'm really sorry to hear your story.......you didn't at one point piss your UPS driver off did you? I only ask that because I was a driver for UPS, started in 1977 and thankfully I'm out of it now, but some people get different treatment based on their personality. I am by no means saying its your fault, but in the real world it happens.

Aside from that you have to look at the big picture.....its that time of year when things get really crazy, it usually starts before Thanksgiving and will continue until the 24th.

Let me give you some incite as to what its like on any given day this time of year, I'll use my old route as an example. During the normal time of the I drove 120 miles a day, 80 being internal mile at speeds of 25 to 35mph, the other 40 were to and from miles at 60 mph, 90 stops with about 115 packages delivered. I had 8 on route pick-ups which yielded about 10 to 15 packages daily, this was considered an 8 hour day according the computer. Every route has a different time allowance based on that particular route. Now here's a day during the Christmas season, 165 miles, 275 stops, 375 to 425 packages, and I was allowed to use a helper for only 5 hours......fun times. There's nothing like getting home from work at 10:30 at night. I've been out of the mix for 5 years and I still hate Christmas.

Most people see a UPS driver for a minute to minute and a half, some probably think we drop off their package and then go home and drink beer the rest of the day, that's far from the truth. My driver dropped off a package Thursday night at 9:15pm, I told my girlfriend that if our house was his last stop and he had no lunch left that he wouldn't get off work until 10:30, how do I know......its my old route.

Bottom line is, the drivers for all the major carriers are doing the best they can, its easy to point fingers but until you have done the job, (and some can't) a person has no idea of what this job entails.

If I made anyone mad.....sorry, but I've been there, done that.

I live at the end of the route, ups may get here at 9 or 10 pm. I know for a fact they have to drive 60 plus miles to get back to hub. They ask too much of their employees, and I know for a fact they get home really late.....

Mark, you are lucky that you got out before the implementation of O.R.I.O.N. its a computer program the maps the "best" route for the drivers. You have to follow trace or the next day there is a manager and your union steward waiting on you wanting to know why you broke off route. Doesn't matter that you have been driving the same route for 20+ years, the guy behind the computer who has never been in a package car a day in his life knows how to do your job better. Enjoy retirement, you earned it

Yesterday I said in another thread, "Tracking numbers should never be mentioned until after a package is late. They cause more confusion than satisfaction. --Jerry" . As I wrote that, I felt a little guilty because I was expecting a couple of actions from PTG and they shipped them via UPS and sent me a link to the tracking. One click told me they were on the truck out for delivery at 0900 yesterday morning. A quick calculation told me that after the required CA 10 day jail sentence, i could pick them up on Dec 26. This was very timely since I'm off the week between Christmas and New Year so I could put the side bolt release and other mods on them while I'm off work....

About noon, they were still out for delivery so I called the FFL to ask when UPS comes and they said usually between noon and 2. So I went back to being patient.

About 1300 the free lance painter showed up to paint a new artistic street number on the curb in front of my house for $20. I had to run an errand (pick up a couple of bolts in the mail that need bushing). Got back and there was a package on my door from UPS. No, not the actions, they have to go to an FFL for 10 days to make sure I'm not going to build a rifle from actions I ordered in August and commit a crime of passion--10 day cooling off period. It was the neighbor's rug she ordered. UPS got it close but missed by 1 house. I took it over and on the way back the painter and his assistant were down on their knees scrubbing my sidewalk and the slate walkway tiles leading up to my front door...turns out the UPS guy in his hurry to deliver the rug to the wrong address jumped out into the wet paint and tracked it all the way to my front door--took the painter 45 minutes to clean up his mess.

So at 430, I called my FFL again and asked if UPS came. They have a good view of the street and said he drove by but didn't stop. My guess is his story is that "They're closed on Saturday". And they really are closed on Monday. So it won't get delivered until Tuesday afternoon at the earliest. Add the 10 days in the penalty box and there goes my Christmas Break.

Tracking status was updated at 652pm from "Out for Delivery Today" to "in Transit"....

Which is proof that I should be living by my own words:

"Tracking numbers should never be mentioned until after a package is late. They cause more confusion than satisfaction. --Jerry"
i am in IN and for some reason i can send stuff east and it usually gets to the destination on or ahead of schedule. But ship something to the west coast and it always takes much longer than estimated delivery date. Even a letter to CA with tracking will take longer than 7 days many times.

They tried to deliver today and noted the business was closed. No mention of why they didn't deliver saturday.

I recently got an email notification that a package was coming. Not one to click on a link, I made note of the tracking number and searched it out.

Seems a fellow with my name in California had a new Geissele trigger coming.

Since it’s Christmas, I didn’t Scrooge him and redirect it to South Carolina... :p

Tracking showed it out for delivery on saturday morning and all day long. --Jerry
