Fedex & UPS deliveries

If yer like me....you have Fedex or UPS out to the house for a delivery 3x per week. :)

I've had numerous UPS / Fedex deliveries from a half dozen companies for which I get an email shipment notification with an estimated delivery date, but then 2-3 days in transit I get another notification the delivery will be 2 or more days late.

Then I ordered this week from Boretech and regular ground on the 2 packages they sent arrives on time in 3 days.

Now I know everyone is blaming COVID for everything, and I can't disprove that, and it kinda makes sense.

But I wonder if the added problem is the inability to find staff that show up to work regularly. And while the shipment label for Fedex / UPS gets generated (and delivery date estimated) the order doesn't get filled / boxed / sent out for 2-3 days (as compared to same day) , and that's causing the delivery delays?

Anyone work shipping for a large company can comment on protocol of creating shipping labels / email notification of customersetc vs when / how the actual shipment leaves the building ? Or work Fedex / UPS / major carrier to shed some light?

Yes, part is the "early" generation of a shipping label/notice, before items are picked and packed. Most customers are upset if their card is charged before shipping, this is the way around it. Generally I have had accurate delivery notices. Tracking numbers are often created now as part of the check out email notification process.

UPS is having issues up here in the PNW. I’ve had several shipments in the last couple weeks that have been delayed due to ‘late trailer arrival’ and stuff like that. It’s only a few days past expected but it seems to be a recent trend lately for sure. It’s annoying but what’s a couple extra days and I always get it so it’s more of just a first world issue at this point.

Backlog of parts for fixing systems, the Covid scare keeping some percentage of staff down for the count (or away due to concerns), etc. I'm surprised the impact hasn't been deeper, all things considered.

UPS and FedEx seem to be weathering it better than the gubmint's USPS, though.

As having worked for UPS for almost 40 years, I seen and heard it all.
As far as F Class John, I think it has more to do with the wildfire problems
and the trailers drivers taking a "safer" route. So might be an extra day for delivers
out west in some areas.
Some companies are "generating" or printing out the label at the time of order
and if it's a labor or parts shortage, the packages are not going out that day or even the next.
The new normal.
