It still amazes me how some barrels foul badly and others not at all. My current TR barrel so far has barely fouled at all - I can't even get a patch of sweets to come out blue. Others, I need to keep on top of. Strangely (or not) the one that doesn't foul has a wicked cold bore problem. The last barrel on that rilfe fouled more than average, but had ZERO cold bore shift. I wonder if that's a coincidence.

Both ways is fine.
Jb or Iosso is fine, use as needed only.
100% of the time when I get a call about carbon issues there is no bronze brush used. Carbon problems can happen in just a few hundred rounds. If you have a bore scope and your barrel cleans with patches only, fine. If you do not have a bore scope and you dont know, brush.

Bronze Bristle Brushes Surely helps prevent carbon build up and I've had several barrel makers state that the proper sized bronze bristle brush will not harm the bore of their barrels. - With all the new bore cleaners out on the market I believe that some of the focus of carbon and its hardness in the area just forward of the throat gets overlooked. - I make 3-5 passes with a bronze bristle brush when I clean & I push from the chamber end to the muzzle, screw it off the rod. - I don't pull it back as I don't want to do anything that can affect the crown. -I have never had any barrel maker try to discourage the use of a bronze bristle brush, but I have had proper cleaning technique emphasized by several. - About the only time I stroke back & forth is when I use ISSO and it is in short back & forth strokes in the area just forward of the throat and I use the hoop / slotted tip with a patch threaded through it.
JB & ISSO I use sparingly but I do use them, probably it at about the 150 to 250 round count point depending on the caliber. - I use ISSO more than JB. - Also I clean pretty often, At 25 to 40 rounds I'm looking at cleaning the barrel, no matter what center-fire caliber it is. (22 long rifle is a different story all together)

Bronze brush is the ONLY thing that will get the grooves clean. Try as you may, patches and anything you put on them do not work down in them valleys where the evil carbon lurks, building up while the shiney lands that anyone can clean casts the deceiving reflection.

I agree completely! Carbon takes some agitation to remove it well, IME. Yes, if you are having success with some other method, I won't knock what works for you but I haven't found any magic potion that replaces a bronze brush and a little careful scrubbing.

Concur completely, wholly and unequivocally. About cleaning the carbon out with Bronze Brushes. One thing a guy needs to be careful with is using a bronze brush with a steel center, don't use it, get the real deal which is all bronze. I use nylon brushes with Iosso when the need arises, I'm in a lucky place now in that I don't have one barrel in my rotation that carbon or copper fouls hardly at all. Still clean every 25 rounds or so, every other relay. One product that has really helped my cleaning regimen is Richard Brensing's bore cleaner, it is exceptional!!

You would cringe if you watched me clean my barrels, I scrub the crap out of them with a bronze brush and pull it back over the crown everytime I push the rod through.......

A fellow by the name of Boyer has been using JB since he 1st started shooting Bench Rest and a Bronze brush and DOES not unscrew it before pulling it bac through the bore.

Once I asked him when a barrel starts to wear out --The 1st shot was his answer

I do the same thing Jade. I clean’em often and thoroughly. About 5 years ago I bought into the nylon brush only bullshxx. I ended up with carbon issues. Never again.

Add me to that list....Jade did have a part in that. Now my barrels clean out usually within 10-12 patches which includes the Kroil patch as the last step. I quit waiting on chemicals to do a half arse job. I push/pull a bronze brush also....my throat is gone before the crown is negatively affected.
