Urbanrifleman RPR Barrel Project

Well, I guess I made the decision to start producing the RPR barrel. If anybody's ever looked at an RPR barrel it has some strange idiosyncratic machining that is required. I think I may have figured out a way around it but I need to test it. I don't even have an RPR.

You want a Ruger barrel? I have one that had 6" cut off of the muzzle but the
breech side is perfect.

So I have my willing subject for the test barrel. I'm going to get it made and get it sent out to him to check for functionality. And if all goes well I will be offering RPR prefits.

If the prototype works to my expectation then my target price will be $349 for stainless.

Preliminary testing was very positive. After getting on paper I had six rounds left. Four of those went into 1/2” at 100 yards and then after adjusting the scope, the last two rounds were almost touching.

I have a full load work up loaded and ready that I plan to shoot on Wednesday before we get slammed by this Christmas cold front.

You have an RPR Nick?

I suppose you'll want a 22-250. :)
No 22-250. The one I got from you is just fine for me. Those 80gr bullets just keep following each other straight down the range and try to hide in the same hole. Really turned out good.

My Ruger is a 6.5 Creedmoor and shoots pretty good but I am always open for something different.

I want to thank you for the time you took to help and old man out.

Gotta help my pals. :)

We finally had some decent weather today. It was 37 degrees and sunny with light wind, so I headed to the local public range for another round of testing the @urbanrifleman RPR barrel chambered in 6XC. A bunch of retired guys were hold up on the 100 yard range doing more talking than shooting, so I moved over to the 200 yard range which I had all to myself.

Today I was testing a load work up with 108 Bergers and IMR 8208 XBR. When the dust settled I had fired 3 foulers and nine 3 shot groups. I measured four groups under 3/4”, four groups right around 1” and one group that measured 1.5”. I’m pretty sure I pulled one on that 1.5” group. The best group of the day was a .206” followed by a .361” group.

Overall I am very pleased with this barrel and excited to see how it shoots with a well sorted out load, although that probably won’t happen until spring. I think these barrels are a great value for anyone in the market for a Prefit barrel including RPR owners now.

I guess that 8208 works in the 6xc hahaha

Any updates on accuracy improvement over stock barrel ?

My RPR was a Gen-1 that came chambered in 243 Win. Out of the box it shot really good for a factory set up, but the barrel was well past its prime and had started throwing a flyer in pretty much every five shot group. Based on what I saw today shooting at 200 yards, I definitely feel like the Urban Rifleman barrel is going to shoot better than the factory barrel did in its prime.
