Urbanrifleman RPR Barrel Project

Well, I guess I made the decision to start producing the RPR barrel. If anybody's ever looked at an RPR barrel it has some strange idiosyncratic machining that is required. I think I may have figured out a way around it but I need to test it. I don't even have an RPR.

Thanks....Everybody likes savings.

If my idea works then I should have a price that's not a whole lot more than my standard prefit. But if it doesn't work the Ruger prefit would be a hundred bucks more than say a Savage Prefit. So approximately $389 plus whatever extras.

If my idea works I should be able to beat that by quite a bit.

Thats a pretty good deal either way. If you get it figured out, you can put me down for one chambered in 6XC.

I have one in 6.5CM. I’d be happy to test and record data for you. Mine has a tack driving proof research SS barrel that was chambered by Pierce Engineering, and it has 385 rounds on it so it’s still very fresh. Let me know if I can help you out.

They’re relatively easy to contour if you start with a Palma blank. Just a few minutes.

I already have contours that are appropriate for Savage and Remington prefits. So contouring's not really much of an issue.

How did you solve the problem of the float tube shoulder?

Because a Palma blank has a fairly sharp taper in front of the shank, you only need to contour a few inches. With the breech end in your chuck, and the muzzle in a tail stock center, turn the OD of the shoulder to 1.180”, then turn everything in front of that down to 1.000”. Flip it around, cut your tenon, and chamber as usual. Tenon is 1.350” long, shoulder is .120” front to rear.
