I had bought a small (easily pocket-able), very expensive item and the seller shipped it USPS with insurance and my personal signature required.
The seller’s instructions were clear and they said inspect the package first before accepting and signing. If there’s any sign of damage or tampering do not accept the package, decline it, do not sign, and let it go back to the shipper because once I accept it the insurance will no longer apply. If it’s damaged or missing at that point there is no recourse.
The package was simply left in the mailbox along with the general mail delivery. Fortunately nothing was wrong with it.
