UPS Transfers Package to Local Post Office for Delivery?

Part of the problem with the surepost/ups basic is that the USPS is so screwed up. The government has been trying to save money by closing smaller post offices or downsizing the post office by moving their sorting duties to a central facility. If I were to order something surepost, ups would drop it off at their closest facility to me, which is 45 miles away. It would get there at about 5am. They would take it to that post office for delivery that morning. It would sit there until about 2pm where it would be loaded on a truck to go to the USPS sorting facility 3 hours away. The next morning, it would be delivered to my local USPS office and be delivered at about noon. The USPS is so screwed up, it would take me 2 days to mail a letter to my neighbor, because our carrier ends his route at a different post office, and the mail truck leaves before he can get back. So it would sit for 20+ hours before going to the sorting facility then back on the second day. He can't deliver a first class letter same day, even if it was the next box he stops at, because that would be considered express mail.

Midway's latest website can be confusing. On my last order the checkout procedure skipped the shipping section and I had to go back through it to check how it would ship. I think if you order hoppes, wipeout, rem oil, etc, USPS won't handle it.

Where I live would prefer USPS..better chance of not being destroyed.........and UPS doesn't deliver on Saturday...

I was pissed last time I ordered it. Came to my post office. Then mailed it an hour and half away to sort facility. Then had to be delivered back to my post office. Then out for delivery. Added an extra day and half to my delivery time. Not end of the world but was anxiously awaiting what I had ordered to put it on my gun and go shoot

You paid extra for 2 day shipping and it took 18 days? ??? Sounds like a "refund" is in order. ;)
OH I asked for it, but that's when someone told me to 'quit complaining since I got it". Like I said, I called their CS the next day and had them delete my account info (credit card numbers etc...) and close whatever account I may have established. Too many people to do business with, and I don't need Midway nearly as much as they need me.

i have not read all the post but i spoke to out ups driver and the drivers do not like it eather. it cuts out some of ther driving time and puts them on loading of off.

Sinclair and Brownells uses ups/usps also. I canceled an order because of it. Then reordered it shipped it straight ground.

Update:

Sent two barrels to my gunsmith..... on tuesday.

So, they ask, "What can Brown do for you?"

They can lose one, and damage the other. All of this before Wednesday. It took them less than one day... The lost one didn't even make off the truck that picked it up..

So I ask, "Who do we use now?" Guess FedEx is our last resort.

Just got an order from MidwayUSA that had specified UPS SurePost. I've been following the tracking, and this is what showed up this morning ...

12/20/2013 6:18 A.M. UPS will attempt delivery;
package will not be transferred to local post office for delivery

mdavis78102: My most recent experience with FedEx: On-line tracking informed me that my package was "left on the porch at 5:38pm". The problem (for fedEx) was that my front door was open & I was within seeing distance from 5:00 to 6:15 & no one stepped on my property to deliver a package. Turns out the dummies left it on somebody else's front porch. To their credit, when I contacted a real live human at FedEx, they got right on the "misplaced package" and it was delivered 24 hours later. Gotta wonder how this is possible with GPS, Google Earth, computers, well lit & numbered house, etc.

UPS is out of the picture for me because the local UPS package stores (franchise owned) will not accept anything firearms related, so that choice is not one for me when shipping an out-going. I would have to drive approximately 40 miles, round trip to the nearest UPS drop-off that is not a franchise. Kinko's will accept anything firearms related, no questions asked, an advantage for me with outgoing FedEx.

The USPS tracking system is a joke. Try to learn the location of a priority shipment and all you will learn is that it's "in transit".

They all have their problems.

Had a "strange " car pull up the driveway yesterday. ??? Turned out to be FedX in his "own car". Package delivered 4 days sooner than expecxted. ;D

There's no best answer to our shipping problems - you pays your money & takes your chances. UPS lost a Krieger 6.5mm bbl blank coming to me back in mid-Sept. I'd gotten some conflicting tracking notices, and the charge for the bbl had shown up on my credit card statement, yet no bbl. So I called Krieger, they had UPS call me, and in about two weeks, a replacement 6.5mm blank was delivered. Kudos to Krieger for busting their butts to make up for UPS's mistake.

Then, in late November, UPS leaves the original 'lost' 6.5mm blank here while I'm gone. Could've had a 'free' blank there I guess, if I'd have kept my mouth shut, but that's not the way I operate, and besides, Krieger has been very good to do business with, so I called them. Yeah, there's a chance they'd collected on the insurance for the 'lost' bbl, and were out nothing, but that's not the way I'd want someone to deal with me if the shoe were on the other foot.

How would the UPS store know what you are shipping?

thefitter: The contents of the package are required to be shown on the shipping form. List something phony like "machined parts" and if there should be an insurance claim for lost or damaged shipment, you'll be told you have no insurance since you falseified the information.

Want to risk doing that on a Nightforce scope?

That must be how they do it in the store when you use their forms and pay them. I create a label online, insure it appropriately then print it, tape it to the box and just drop it off at a drop box, a retail store or a hub/depot. My credit card is charged later. There is nothing about content declared or asked by anyone. Same with Fedx.

Here's another update to the continuing saga of the "Lost/Damaged Barrels".

The Damaged Barrel was returned to UPS for inspection. They inspected it, and sent it back to me. I arrived at the UPS store to pick the Damaged Barrel up, the tube was empty. The tape on the end of the tube, that UPS themselves had applied, was busted out, and the barrel was gone.

What can Brown do for you?
