Finally got back out on decent day for range testing, after the day one fireforming session. Those cases were freshly turned and prepped and were loaded with the primers that were in them when I bought them as one lot brand new never fired. Those three shot groups were loaded as the case necks were prepped for neck turning, opened up with my K&M neck expanding mandrel, and not sized after turning.
So on this trip now with my once fired brass, loaded with 7.5 Remington Small Rifle primers, and resized in the Wilson FL Bushing sizer, with a .241" bushing, and loaded with the 47 grain bullets using LT-32 powder, I shot these five shot groups.
With that 23.8 grain load running over 3450 fps and it measured .167" using the Harrels measuring device, it looks good. The 24 grain load was great till the last shot, and that might have been conditions I didn't catch. But I am going to shoot these again with 23.7 and 23.8 once again, but I will use my .242" bushing, to see if a little less neck tension is favorable.
At any rate, even with the .167" group, I'm quite happy for the first day testing 5 shot groups. I also will stick with the Remington 7.5 SRP. As below is the results with everything the same using Federal 205M SRP showed all three groups including the 23.8 grain and 24.0 grain load to shoot slightly larger groups.
My results showed the same preference for the 7.5 Remington SRP. But my next range day I will be waiting for Temps above 50 degrees, these were shot in the mid 40's, nice but nowhere near the match conditions I will be prepping for this coming season.
But all in all, this is proving to be much better than I was expecting with only one real range trip with fireformed brass. As good as it was, I'm thinking it is not as good as it will be after some final tuning? Time will tell!
A final few shots of the proving grounds, the range runs slightly south mostly east, with high ground protecting that SW side of the range. Yep still a little snow on the ground there in Southern Michigan.
