UPDATE: New Bergara .243 win. = Junk?

my problem for not inspecting the chamber/rifling prior to taking it.
Seriously? Someone from Midway said that? That would be hard 'FU. Never buying from you again'.
Now that I think about it, it's so far out from what you'd expect, I would probably take the time to call and ask to speak with a supervisor to ask them if that's their policy.

I agree it would be cool if they provided assistance in shipping the rifle back to Bergara, but it wouldn't be a deal killer for me.

I've used Midway for years, while their prices are not the best, they seem to have a lot of the consumables available that I use and have them when I need them.

In my way of thinking, Bergara is the responsible party here. They should fix their mistake and cover the shipping cost. So, I would contact them and explain the defect you discovered. Hopefully they will respond better than the following bad experience I had.

I had a similar issue with a Weatherby Vanguard, a chamber had significant tool marks that caused very difficult extraction. My smith sent it back and they said there was no problem after they tested it, then sent it back to my smith. When the rifle was returned, my smith polished the chamber, and the problem disappeared. You can imagine how I feel about Weatherby and any decision to buy a firearm from them in the future.

I own several Tikka's have been totally pleased with them but any factory rifle that is mass produced is subject to a "lemon" slipping through the process. The test is how they deal with it when it happens. Fortunately, I have not had to find out with Tikka, at least to date.

February 24th 2021 midway made Matt Fleming the president and CEO of midway. That is roughly when 24 hour orders and support ended at Midway, along with the good customer service we had come to expect from them. I don't see how Larry can be blamed for all of this? If your rifle is to be repaired would you really want someone from Midway doing the work? A new rifle would need an FFL to transfer the old rifle to the factory and the new rifle to you, way more paperwork BS than fixing it even if it requires a new barrel. And what you said in post #1 about not even wanting to send it back to Bergara, what other choice do you have? It is my understanding the custom shop just outside of Atlanta does these kind of repairs, and in the begining it was run by an ex marine corps armorer who had quite a reputation. One of the previous posters said something about a premium barrel, that is what they do at that shop. I know your disappointed, don't give up or give in push them to make it better than it was susposed to be. Good luck!!

My girlfriend bought her first AR a few years back. I took her out to sight it in. I reload so i pick up all my brass. When i picked up the ones that came out of her rifle the brass has wicked tool chatter marks on the shoulder area. I emailed the manufacturer. They sent me a shipping lable. I sent it off with 2 pieces of brass. 3 weeks later rifle was back with a complete new upper, 2 fird pieces of brass. I was pleased they handled it. Give them a call and at least 1 chance to make it right.

Also did you read Midways terms and conditions before ordering?
Not ganging up on you at all.. I do think it would have been nice for Midway, at min, jump in and start the process for a return. Hope it works out for you.

I just picked up a new bergara in 243 win from MidwayUSA. Shot one round through it am knew something was wrong. Pulled out the brass and there was a bulge around the entire lower neck. Put the camera in the barrel and it looks like they milled a groove around the entire chamber. The throat/rifling looks terrible as well. Called midway and they basically said too bad and offered me bergara’s phone number. Pretty disappointed in midway as I’ve spent about 10k with them in the last month.

Not sure what the best path forward is right now. Not sure I even want to bother with sending it to bergara.

Needless to say, very disappointed

Any news from the fine folks at Begara?
We’re a curious bunch.

It's a warranty issue, so Midway was right in telling the client to call Bergara. If they told him to send it to them, they would just have to send it on to Bergara. I am no big fan of Midway, but they were right to skip a step in a warranty repair that they can add nothing to but additional delays. Several folks mentioned Tikka, but I can tell you that Beretta handles the warranty work on Tikkas in the USA, and they are TERRIBLE! Again, I love Tikka rifles, but Beretta is terrible to deal with.

I love Spanish products. Have a dozen of spanish shoes. Never thought of buying a Spanish rifle. You just cannot be good at everything.

I'd just fire-form a few more cases, and then see how it shoots with some good reloads. You could call your new "wildcat" the 6mm BI.(Bergara Improved) (couldn't help myself)

That shell looks like it WAS a reload?? jd
